99 SSEI, Bose OEM amp and aftermarket headunit, how?
Hey, I've been searching for an hour for a proper explanation as to what is needed for my project, but I am coming up short.
I have a 99 SSEI w/ Bose sound system. The guy I bought it off of yanked his aftermarket stereo out, so I have a nice big harness sitting there (OEM side only).
I have a Clarion unit I want to put in, and I'll just use the factory everything else. I can't find which harness I need to guarantee I will have what I need for the built in amp to get power, etc...
To be clear, I am leaving the stock amp, speakers, etc in the car. Just adding the deck. I know I'll need a steering wheel interface to keep the buttons working, I can deal with that later, I just want to avoid being stuck when it comes to install since I have to ship everything in.
I am looking for the following parts/part number:
Dash install kit (getting diff. Metra #* from diff. websites)
Wiring harness (WITH Bose amplifier)
I know I need a GM antenna adapter, those are self explanatory. Thanks for your help..

There should be two connectors. One for the main radio and one small one with a single orange wire. That orange wire needs power to power the amp. Once you do that..you should have sound.

I have used this same sytle OEM connector before. I bought it from Walmart, but I found this one on Crutchfield'* website.
Receiver Wire Harness
For select Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Isuzu, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Saturn models, 1985-up
Item #120701858
$9.99
Pontiac In-dash Receiver Kit
Fits select 1994-up models
Chassis size E
Item #003GMK432X
$19.99
I believe the Bose amp turn on wire feeds off of the radio'* power antenna wire. That'* the same wire I used to convert my stock system over to a Monsoon system that came out of a 2003 Grand Am.

Mike..that would work pre-Bose. Bose introduced an amp to the system. If the amp isn't powered, you get no sound through it. on the previous generation amps, you'd still get sound w/o any additional levels etc.
97-99 there was another additional orange wire going to a seperate connector in the middle of the stock radio. If you don't have that, then I'd check for an unaccounted for orange wire in the stock connector. I moved mine into the stock connector when I swapped it out for ease of install.
I know this probably doesn't help further than what I've already mentioned. But here'* the actual post

Alright, so we're getting somewhere now, useful info guys!
So, if I am understanding correctly, I just buy the generic harness and splice power to this additional orange wire, and ta-da, sound.
Anyone have a link to the dash install kit on Ebay? Since there are so many generic photos, I don't even know WHAT it should look like. A pocket is under the unit? More detail please.. Thanks again!

Scroll down a ways for the picture. I actually have a second one I bought to get more wires to add one for things like the amp. If you get that one..toss me your addy and I'll send you a couple extra wires to clip in so you can keep it all in one connector.

Well, made time yesterday to put the deck in. I had to trim that plastic piece out inside the dash that seems to have held the back of the old deck in place.
I soldered the orange wire that was seperate to power, and now there is sound. It seems like the sound quality is really flat/bass-less while using this CLARION CZ209 unit.
I guess I'll have to tweek with the EQ or something. Anyways, thanks for your help!
