Well, after much headaches and wallet draining, I have resolved my issue with my Bose system.

I have a 97 SSEi with the Factory Bose system, and AC Delco Casette radio with no EQ.

I had terrible distortion on the rear speakers (both) and so the logical thing there was either the amp of the radio unit.

Anyway, it was neither. I just bought a pair of cheap Jenson 6x9 speakers, 4ohm 60W RMS/180W peak and magically my system rocks again. Now yes, I know these arent the best speakers but they sound about 1000% better than the old Bose ones.

The old bose speakers sucked. They looked physically ok, but when I touched the cones, they crackled like brittle paper. They were the dual cone type with 4 wires going to it. But from the Bose amp, there is only 2 wires, and then there is a connector that splits it up into 4 wires.

So now I have deep bass and the best part, was that they pit perfectly under the factory grill, and I was still able to hook up the factory bose tweeter thats mounted in the grill. So I have the 3 way 6x9 and an additional Bose Tweeter.

I will be selling my Used ACDelco radio soon, it works fine and looks great. I will also be selling my Bose 4 channel amp which also works great. If anyone is interested, let me know.

I guess the moral to this saga is: If you are broke and just want some half decent sound, dont listen to everyone telling you to rip out your Bose system. And don't bother replacing the Bose Amp or Delco Radio unit, they are usually just fine. Just replace the speakers with aftermarket ones and you will be happy. Definately replace the rear ones, thats a must do. The front arent as critical.

Ok heres' my view on what you did, yeah ANY bose speaker is bad, regardless of where it goes (house car etc) or what it does. Go to best buy "home of great speakers" not really but anyways, and listen to their $900 towers they have, then walk to the other listening "room" and listen to the $50 KLH speakers for bookshelfs, the sound WAAAAAAAY better. Bose is all marketing and no products. Do you think a 2" cube with a paper cone speaker with no tweeter in a plastic enclosure is the best thing for audio reproduction??

Anyways GM has some nice decks in their cars, and yeah i bet you blew the speakers. once paper woofers crack they bend on that line very easily. If you are replacing your deck with an aftermarked one i would suggest running new wire if you are doing it yourself. It'* a nice upgrade, and you'll have to do it anyways. I just bought a Rockford RFX 9000 for 180. I'd install it myself but it'* free so i guess i'll try that. It does mp3, has multiple high powered preamp outs, and has red lights to match the bonnes dash lights. My friend got one for his 91 firebird last year and i put it in for him, damn its a nice deck.

My Bonne is purple too. The color blends in nicely with the red faced ricers when they get blown away

Anyway, I am glad my cheap speakers sound ok. It was a cheap fix in the end.

I am gonna put up my Bose 4 channel amp and Delco Radio cassette for sale. They work fine and they are out of a 97 SSEi with Bose system, although the Radio Cassette will work in most Bonnies without the Bose system as well.

From a 97? you could definetly get over 50 i bet, you just gotta find someone who wants one, i did, but he'* my customer! He he.
