Antenna Re/Placement
So it would seem that several items are about to converge that will make it possible to bring about a greater end to my Bonneville:
I need to paint the roof, as the paint is coming off in patches.
I plan on getting a new stereo because the stocker is a peice.
I would like to throw some Dynamat on the roof for noise reduction.
Now, I hate the lag that comes with the stereo power-up when I turn on the radio, and I do not want the antenna to have to run up and down the mast all day long as I motor about...so what I was thinking, was that since I would be pulling the headliner for the Dynamat, getting a new head and conversely running some cable fore and aft, and painting the roof anyway, I would get a Volkswagen 'stinger' type antenna (the brand name is Fuba) and throw that on the roof.
Added bonus: I love the symetry and it looks great.
Has anyone else done something this awesome before?
I was thinking that I would just run the antenna cable up the B pillar and have the antenna posted just behind where the latter-most point of movement of the sunroof. I have yet to remove the headliner and take any measurements, but the Fuba unit has a relatively small foot print, so I wouldn't image fitment would be a problem (notwithstanding the sheet metal modification).
Any thoughts?
