Default System

I got a JL Audio 15w0 15" Subwoofer, and a Profile 600MSX 600 Watt Mono-Subwoofer Amp. I am building a sealed enclusere for it tomorrow, and I am going to get the wiring kit tonight. I'm excited. The only downside is that this system isnt going in my Bonne, since we don't haev it anymore. It will be going in the extended cab of my ranger pickup. Do you think that the 15w0 will be enough for my ranger?

I like the 12" WO JL'* better.... but the 15 should sound alright... I had a friend with a 15" W0 in his cherokee and it sounded pretty loud but it wasnt very clear because of its size. If you want the best sound..make a long deep ported box. thats what would sound the best in your EX cab ranger.

Thanks man. I'm probably going to go with a long, deep sealed box. Does it make that much of a difference?

The 15" will hit harder and lower in a ported box.. .... One medium sized port will do...

yes, i think it would be louder in a ported box....but i think it should hit deeper in a sealed box.

It will hit lower notes clearer in the sealed, but it will the lowest notes in a ported one. It will definetly be a lot louder in a ported box. That sub needs a big box.

Sealed Enclosure Range: 1.75-3.00 cu.ft. (49.5-85.0 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 3.00-5.00 cu.ft. (85.0-142.0 liters)
big box is right

That size box might not fit in my ranger real well though. It is a small area. I'm shooting for 2.5 cubes.

sounds like your stuck with a sealed. Oh pooh.
If your looking for output you want ported, quality, sealed. Given this is one of those evil audio a properly designed... will smoke a...
I've no idea where your knowledge for this is at so:
Say the driver puts out 100 db at 50hz with some magical power number...
sealed (roll off of 10-12db/octave) = 88-90 db @ 25 hz
ported (roll off of 20-24db/octave) = 76-80db @ 25hz (nevermind complete loss of cone control below the tuning freak, which for sake of argument is 40-50 in most cars, higher in SPL vehicles).
Sealed is notably inefficient compared to ported(at tuning freak a ported
is good for 3 more db than a sealed.) theoretically of course.
I need a drink.
