I have a question for any of you that have put aftermarket stereos in your Bonneville. If you used a wiring harness, did you just use one that had a plug on both ends: one for your aftermarket stereo and the other one plugging into the plug that went into the back of your original factory stereo? Or is it more complicated than that? Thanks.

yeah i just used the one that came with the cd player and bought a $10 one from somewhere. just crimped them together

not to bring this off-topic, but what color wire is for the power antenna?

That is the pinout and color combos for your car (which is the same as mine ).

Power antenna is blue from your new radio harness, and pink from the car.

Thanks for all of the information guys, but I think there is a way I can do it that would not require ANY cutting of wires. I just need to get these 2 items:

Attatches to the existing plug that is supposed to go into the factory radio - http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...&oid=41024&m=1

Attatches to the previous item with the other end going right into the Kenwood - http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...&oid=41111&m=1

I crimped two different wiring harnesses together(one provided with my Pioneer and the other I bought at bestbuy). I have not had any problems and it was good because I was able to attach my antenna to the 12v igintion turn on, not to mention the turn on for the bose amp...

2 harnesses...good choice. Then you don't have to:

1) do the grunt work in your car and
2) risk messing stuff up/shorteneing the factory wires.

I should have taken a pic of my system when I put it in. Anyhow, I took the two harnesses and cut the wires so that they were about 8" long combined. I altered the length so that all of the "crimps" wouldn't be in the same area, and then I soldered and heatshrink wrapped mine.

I've done it several times just crimping for other people, and it seems to work fine as well. I prefer solder when I'm working on my own stuff, though

i have seen a company that had harnesses that go directly from some alpine units to the stock harness in the car. so with these you just get rid of the harness that comes with the radio and plug directly into the dash.
