Default Convert Power Outlet to Switched for Apple TV

All,

I have successfully hooked up a first generation Apple TV to my 2013 Denali XL. I was able to JailBreak the ATV to transmit analog signal to the RCA inputs.

The problem I am having is there are NO switched power outlets in the vehicle. My DC inverter runs nonstop even when the car is off.

I have been all over the net searching for ways to transform a power outlet to be switched with the car. I know I am supposed to find RAP ports but none are available in the dash fuse panel.

Has anyone done this or does anyone know how to successfully rewire a power-outlet to be switched or RAP?

if it were me i would cut wire for the cig lighter and put a 30a relay in and take a meter and find a fuse that is on the rap circuit. then tap of of that to control the relay. if you want a diagram i could make something up

i would do what justin said. you dont even have to cut the factory harness. advance auto sells what i like to call a piggy back fuse. you plug it into an existing fuse hole, and it lets you have the existing fuse along with a fresh wire thats also fused. basically the same principal as a splitter on a house outlet.

I actually did exactly what you proposed below.

How To: Aux Power RAP Control Mod - Chevrolet Colorado & GMC Canyon Forum

The above link suggests to rig an external fuse holder and bridge the power outlet with a RAP type device.

The reason it worked in the copied link is because there was just one fuse panel in the car. In my SUV there are 2 fuse panels. Unfortunately for me, all my power outlet fuses are located in the car fuse panel and all my RAP fuses (stereo, windows, moon roof) are located in the engine bay fuse panel.

Is there an easy way to get through the firewall from the engine bay to the dashboard?

the way they do it the power comes from the rap relay, not really smart for high power devices. my suggestion was a relay where the power comes from the original fuse, and you control the relay with the rap power, which is minimal current. if its not in the truck its a little more difficult but those wires go to your radio and other places, i would just strip and solder on a wire to the radio.

Ooh, I apologize this is a totally different design you are proposing.

I am not super savvy with this so I appreciate your patience.

This is what I found on that i believe serves the relay piece:

Amazon.com: New 5 Lot Car 30A 12V SPDT Relay & Socket Kit For Fan Fuel Pump Light Horn 5Pin: Camera & Photo

Essentially I go from

30 > 30A Fuse > Battery Positive
85 > Battery Negative OR grounded to car chassis?
86 > RAP Power (I am lost here, what wire am I tapping into for this? In the old design I was simply tapping into an existing RAP Fuse designated for something else)
87 > Tapping into - or + in device fuse?

Thanks so much for your help on this.

Further research shows I need to find the cars ACC or IGN circuit. Any knowledge of where I can tap into that? I think I got the rest covered.
