I noticed a bit of a problem with my front door speakers. When I had them in my car, they pushed so much air that they pushed out of place the window and lock controls. Since I now have my door panels taken off, I figure it'* a good time to do some custom speaker boxes. I was going to wing it with a few paper designs and then ***** the design, but first asking if anyone has experience is better. These are for my 94 SSEi, but I use 96-99 door panels.

I used to look for this stuff on and off, and some tupperware came up. Is this what I should be looking for?

Tupperware could work very well, but make sure you dynamat it and seal it really well to the door panel. Also watch the depth of the box you put in, in case it comes close to the window.

From what I've seen and heard, putting in matting for the tupperware would keep the sound very warm without shaking the surroundings. I'm only planning to use the 5.25" speakers without the tweeters above, so hopefully that won't interfere with the windows.

Most car audio speakers are built for infinate baffle systems, like door panels.

Putting most regular speakers (besides for subwoofers), generally isn't best practice.

I understand car speakers are made not to be put into boxes, but these dislike my door panels and therefore have to be put into isolation.

XTC seems to be kind of what I've been looking for. I was worried that by having door panels blocking the spread of the speaker box, there wouldn't be enough room for the speaker to move air. That looks like a nice alternative. I found a ton of them, but all the pictures look the same without much of a description. Thanks for the brand name, though! I'll keep trying to find something, and I'll let you guys know.

Also, since the speakers are outside my car right now, I'll plug them into a radio the first chance I get to install them into my speaker boxes to see what they sound like before the final installation. It'* a good last test. Has anyone had experience returning XTC baffles? In case they're too "baffling," I may need to change plans.

slick94prix is right, Those door speakers are designed for infinite baffle as mentioned above, therefore putting them in a small enclosuere will choke the bass they can produce. Thats good for power handling, and makes the mid bass very punchy. The little bass they produce might not blend as smoothly with the rest of the system as they might with just the open panels. Are those XTC things hard or soft foam? If theyre rigid they might be what your looking for. If theyre soft, they will actually reduce the bass output by acting like a rubber band. It will waste some of the acoustic bass evergy to move the foam which is heavier than air. You would have to try it with and without one to see what it sounds like. I havent used them before so I dont know for sure. It could sound good, thats just my thoughts.

You guys make a great point about the bass, but I got the speakers to have excellent highs and mids. If the XTCs are good enough to keep the door panels from launching the window and lock controls, I'm all set. I should probably tell you I don't even need to have the volume up much to move out the panels, and it might have something to do with the clips. Don't worry, I'm not trying to go deaf.

I bought the 5.25 speaker baffles and the 6×9 ones as well. The order came out to be just under $24 for all four and shipping summed up. Not only is that satisfying, but also I won't need to use tupperware! All due apologies go to the eager tupperware party attendees. The 6×9 baffles should help with my attempt at a quick rear deck re-design of those plastic holders, with of course pics coming from a new digital camera purchase.

I'm so glad Bonneville Club exists! This progress with my car is awesome! I love how it just keeps running but needs severe aesthetic and "some" mechanical maintenance. Without your advice, it would probably be... um... Now that I've found Parts Express, there is more Bonnevilling to be done than ever! Goodbye, sweet wallet!

One more thing I should mention is that when I bought my speakers, I explicitly asked for great mids and highs out of all four speakers because of my Haro Rockford Fosgate 2400W amp and dual 1200W subwoofers in a ported box. With red crushed velvet...
