Default Power Ant. switch?

So the other day I installed my new head unit. I was tired of my cd'* skipping in my junky Sony HU so I went with a 'digital media player' instead. No cd'*, just AM/FM, iPod, SD, and USB. Love the HU, however, there was no hookup wire for the power antenna. I dont really listen to the radio that much anyway, but it still bugs me that I dont have that option.

I did some digging on other forums and have decided to just splice the antenna wire into the ignition lead with a manual switch, so to listen to the radio, I'll just hit the switch, antenna goes up, turn switch off, antenna goes off. Also by going in the ignition lead, if i forget about the antenna and turn the car off, theoretically, the antenna should still go down by itself.

Before getting into this again, I figured I'd run it by you guys for your input.

Thnx,
IronWolfe

I also just did the same thing but my radio does have a wire, which I connected to the listed antenna wire on the aftermarket HU. Yet My antenna still doesn't go up.

I also need help on this.
