Hi, just wondering what you all think the best radar detector is for the money. I'm thinking about getting a Valentine in a few months.

Valentines are good units, as are the Passport line. My buddies got a Passport 8500 and it works flawlessly.

I'll second the V1. I've owned one for close to 10 years and wouldn't drive with anything but.

Valentine One is the best in my opinion. Owned a bunch too. They even offer upgrades if they improve the design. It might not look as sleek as some, but it works better than any of them.

Couldn't justify the money for the V1, and honestly never needed it. The Bel Vector Series is great. The 940 is the best I've owned. I run that in front on my 93, and a cheaper whistler in the rear. Same model of whistler in the rear of my 95, and a Cobra (which I HATE but it was given to me) in the front of the 95. My hatred of the Cobra is more intensified now. It picks up a false signal every thirty seconds from the REAR detector, and sets off either Spectre or VG2 constantly until I turn off the rear. The Bel doesn't do this with the same whistler running in the rear.

Duals is much better coverage than a single 360. Even with a cheap detector in the back. I know the sound of both, and instantly know where the alert is.

Just one ticket would justify the V1. You wouldn't need more than one of them either. Took a trip to Indianapolis this weekend. There was a guy we wound up following for a while, then passing, then following a while longer. Don't know what detector he had on his visor, but I could see it. Long story short, I picked up the signal, and slowed down. He kept going, and got a couple of football fields in front of us, when the cop painted him.

V1 has better range than anything. Anything. It also lets you know which direction the source is relative to your car, and something I haven't seen done on any other, it tells you how many sources. I was skeptical too, and even though I had known of them for a long time, and had a friend raving about his for wuite a while, I didn't know what I was missing until I got one. Its like finding God. Until you have it happen, you can't really appreciate it when someone else talks about it.

I don't know what speeding tickets average in your area, but here in Oregon, they typically don't come close to the cost of a V1. My Bel and my whistlers have never let me down. Until they do, I won't spend that kind of money on a detector.
