Personally i upgraded my Alt to a AC Delco 140amp, Before i did any of the audio upgrades.....i recommend that you do the same
you also need to complete the "big 3" upgrade if you have not already done so...
I love my RF Cap, but i am also thinking of adding a second battery as well...
i say that a second battery might be a better choice as long as your charging system is adequate

"Big 3"?
1993 SLE,
what do you mean by "Big 3"? Thats a new one on me.
briancole23,
Thanks for the offer, but will have to hold on on that for now. $$ tight at the moment.
Thanks for the compliments you guys.
BTW. I picked up a radioshack digital db meter tonite and briefly tested my car. I know and understand its not the greatest peice of tech out there, but was just curious to see where it showed me. I turned on a mp3 I d/l from realmofexcursion.com and I pegged the meter. Its range is from 50db to 126db. I was soooo when I saw that. It will be interesting to see what the guys at the competition say I pull.
Thanks again.

SPL Competition
Well I did it!
I attended my first ever and competed too in an SPL Competition.
There were about 15-20 cars there.
Not knowing what to do when I got up to the staging area, I had 30 seconds to get my highest DB. A friend of mine and myself had played around with some CD/HD Quality Tones. We found, or felt it was loudest at 41 Htz in my car.
But today, after talking to some other the other competitors, particularly one guy, Tom, who was not in my class, he told me to stair step the tones from 40 - 50 Htz. So I staged and I was nervous. The timer started and I started stepping. I topped out at 131.6 Db at 45 Htz. 30 Seconds go by FAST!!!
Later we did some more testing, not on stage, but with Tom'* help, he says I might have done 3 - 5 Db better if I had run in the "OUTLAW" (windows down) and hit at best 47 Htz.
Tom, has the termpro meters at his garage and we are going over there in a few weekends to tune and test my car out.
My class was "CAR" + "CLASS B" + "STREET/LEGAL"
I was the only there with a Sealed box. Tom says the SPL comps are more or less won by ported boxes. I learned alot from today, terminology, how-to'* etc..
I am going to try this again in a few months and be better prepared. He thinks I can get possibly closer to 138 Db or so with my system.
Oh.. guess what, I pulled away with 3rd place trophy!!!!

The Enclosure
BLACK94SSEi,
The Box is a Sealed Box, the speakers are inside each in its own chamber, firing down in the trunk then its ported or banded out the bottom towards the rear of the car.
Here is a diagram I found on a site that I modified to closer show what mine looks like if that helps in understanding.
One trick I found when I bought the amps was to get an older model. They were new, but everybody was carrying the new RF models, these were "older" so I got them for cheap.
There are alot of brand new equipment out there, but the manufacturers still have older models that they want to off-load as well as stores that bought merchandise and want to get rid of them to get the brand new models. Look for "last years" models when you shop. You can purchase them and still get the full manufacturers warranties.
