Just picked up a cheap in-dash off of eBay you know one of those Inovatech things..

Well I hooked it all up like I thought I should only it didn't work.

Tried and tried and could never get it to fully function. I could get power to it and get the DVD player to come on but never any sound or anything.

Well reading threw the forums last night I came across a post that explained that my Scosche wiring harness was actually lying to me about the Switched ACC wire.

So anyways now I can get the unit to turn on and fully function. But the bad thing is when I turn it off something always stays on depending on how I have it wired.

I have out of the HU A Yellow marked with B+, a Blue marked with B+, black ground, Red ACC

Now on the harness I have 2 Yellow, 1 Orange, 1 Red

I am pretty sure that I will have to hook the ACC Switched into another power source since the HU does not provide it.

But can anyone else tell me how to configure the wiring so that it fully functions and will shut off completely?

BTW the way I have it now the red lights on the HU stay on like it doesnt know that it was told to turn off.

the orange is probably for illumination which if you have it hooked up to a constant source, it may be why it appears to stay on. Also what kind of HU is it that you have? On any wiring harness you should always have one constant 12v and one switched. On some harnesses you may see two of a constant or switched and to my best knowledge you should be able to just wire them together. It may be a memory wire or something like that. Give me the part number of your harness and ill look into it for you

The HU is a piece of junk Innovatek DVD-601. Got it so cheap... No wonder.

Here is the wiring harness, Scosche GM07B Car Stereo Wiring Harness.

There is a Red wire that comes out of the wiring harness but anything that I did with it didn't work. I read on another post that it wasn't actually the Switched 12v.

And yes the two yellow seem to be constants..

Man it seems that I have tried everything possible and still I have the same issues.

I even went back out to my car after it had been sitting for a few hours to see if the lighter would still have power since I have read that it is a good place to get the switched power from but it was still active.

Now I'm at a loss again.

First off, your lighter should be a source for switched power so i dont know whats goin on there but I can tell you this. If you pull the underdash off at the steering column ( should be two small 7 or 8 mil bolts and then body clips up top) chase the ignition harness and look for either a pink or white wire. These will be your first and second igniton wires. That way you really are getting a definite switched signal. Next pull your radio and count the pins as they mate up from harness to harness. If you have a volt meter you will need it. You can maybe touch the side of the cigar lighter socket for your ground and start poking pins at the wiring harness coming from the car and going to the radio. with the key turned on you should find two pins reading 12v. Turn the key off, and check again that will tell you which one is switched. Or you can just run that switched wire from the radio harness straight to the ignition wire that i told you about at the switch . I would also checked all of the wires at your switch to make sure that none of them are crossed. I dont know why but I just never trusted schosche harnesses though I have only had a problem with one. Does your car have onstar or bose?

You shouldnt have a switched signal at all behind that radio.

So is it your thoughts that I should run the Acc switched(Red) from the HU to the ignition wire?
Run the Constant on the HU to the Constant in the car (yellow)?
Then run the (Blue) wire marked B+ from the HU to the (Orange) Illumination wire?

I dont think you will need that illumination wire but if you do, it should run to another orange wire. the only blue wires that I am familiar with are either remote or power antenna so im not sure what B+ means. you should call the radio manufacturer.

I got a voltmeter and checked the harnesses up underneath the driver'* side until I found one that was switched 12V.

Was poking around last night.

I found that the orange illumination wire is actually switched power but is tied into the lighting system.
So I get the fun lights dim when the bass hits.

so I started poking around with the ignition. Not sure if i am the right spot or not. There was a connector with three wire white, yellow and black i think. Very thin. i pulled the connector apart and was testing for voltage.
I actually watched the battery drain. not sure why it drained the battery when i was testing the voltage?
So i have been needing a new battery anyway and thought this was just as good a time as any.

Interestingly enough I have not heard back from the HU manufacturer about the wiring.

I do have everything hooked up which appears to be working.

If I am correct about 1 thing then all I need to do is find a good switched ACC to tap into.

That one thing I mentioned is' when i turn the car off the HU has red lights that turn on and stay on.
Only 2 of them. I need to know if this is normal. This is on the side that is connected to the constant.

Any better descriptions on another ACC location to tap into?

What does it mean swap fuse positions for the circuit to die with ignition.
That could be my ticket. Also I am going to install an amp and will need to tap switched power for that so im thinking front lighter for the HU and the back Lighter for the Amp?
