I'm putting in a Aftermarket Generation keyless entry system on my 2000 SE, which didn't come with keyless entry. I got the kit and things look fair enough to install, but to do the job I need to know the following (your input is greatly appreciated):

1) Is the '00 a negative triggered, relay-driver system, or a positive triggered, relay-driver system, or something else?

2) Where is the factory door lock module located?

3) From the factory door lock module, Is the lock wire red/black and unlock wire orange/black?

4) How exactly do you get power to the aftermarket brain box? I know I have black and red power wires that lead from the brain box, with a 15 amp in-line fuse on the red wire, but where do I hook up for power? The diagram says battery, but isn't there some place or fuse panel I can tap into somewhere near the door lock module? And what kind of connectors would I use.

In the 2000+ Bonneville, each door has its own door module. These modules control ALL functions of each given door. The driver door module (DDM) acts as a master and a gateway to the class 2 serial data bus that much of the car communicates on.

When a factory installed remote is used, the RCDLR (Remote Control Door Lock Receiver) sends a class 2 data message to the DDM. The DDM sends a serial message to the remaining three modules (dependant on how the lock/unlock options are set) on a seperate serial bus that links only the four door control modules. Each door module will then activate the door lock solenoid. The lock versus unlock is achieved by simply reversing polarity to the solenoid.

In many respects, it would be much easier to install the OEM RCDLR (a total of four wires) rather than an aftermarket product. I can't speak for all aftermarket products, but you may well be looking at adding wiring to every door.

Are you talking about the unit located in the truck mounted on the back of the rear seat, driver'* side? I like your idea, but I see they're not on ebay and a dealer would require you to leave an arm or leg to obtain one. I'm not even sure GM wired the connections back there since the car didn't come with it- I looked one day and there is nothing to tie into.

Now that I'm understanding the complexity of this system, I'm fine with just having the driver'* side door open with keyless remote. Where is the driver'* side door module located in the door? I just had that panel off last week adding in some speakers and never looked for it.

Which, in that case, I don't see why I couldn't just add the system into the driver'* side door. This unit cost about $30 on ebay, nota big deal. It'* a little box. My question would still be how to get power to the brain box, and whether the factory ddm acts as a negative triggered system.

You definitely wouldn't want to buy a RCDLR from the dealer, however Ed Morad (one of the members here - GTP_MORAD) operates an auto wrecking business. I'm sure he could get you the receiver and a couple of remotes.

Since you don't already have the receiver, you won't have the wiring. It shouldn't be overly difficult to add though. I'm very familiar with how these are wired into the vehicle, but I've never had to add one for anybody. I can tell you that it should work, but I can't provide an absolute guarantee. Once connected, it should be like any other class 2 module on the data bus. You would neet to visit your dealer in order to have the module set-up / remotes programmed.

Another consideration you may have is disarming the vehicle theft deterrent system (VTD). If your car is equipped, you may still activate the alarm when you open your door since you would be bypassing all the vehicle electronics and connecting to the solenoid directly. I have little to no experience with aftermarket products, so I'm not sure if/how they get around this.

The door modules are mounted inside each door respectively and are visible once the door panel has been removed. As mentioned, there should be one in each door. They control the power window motors, power door locks, disarm VTD (when the key is used) and of course the power mirrors.

The XK01 bypass module will take care of all the door locks, trunk pop, parking lights, and if you were going to add remote start, it will also do the bypass for that as well.

You simply run the wires coming out of the Keyless Entry brain to the XK01. It then has 1 output, which connects to the Data wire at the ALDL connector. This wire sends the correct information into the data line, and out through the vehicle.

That'* interesting slick94...where is the aldl connector at? Also, where are these xk01 bypass modules obtained?

The ALDL is the scan port, underneath the dash on the driverside.

The bypass is more common in most car audio installation bay'* nowaday'*. But, you will need to have it flashed to the most current firmware for your vehicle, which most bay'* will not do for free, unless you are having it installed there.
