Default HID Help

Last week I installed a 9006 8000K HID kit. It works great and I love it, but the headlight lamp monitor is on ever since I installed it. Is there any way to clear it or do something to fix the problem?

Here are some pictures of the kit:

How do you have this kit connected ?

I assume this is for your low beams and that the kit came with its own socket for the bulb. Is this correct ?

From what I understand the Lamp Monitor measures resistance in the circuit. When a bulb burns out the resistance changes causing it to notify you on the dash.
The same would be true if you unpluged a bulb.

If you unpluged your low beams which I assume you did, then you have to try and trick the Lamp monitor into thinking that there is still a bulb connected or just disregard the message on the dash.

Regards,
Dutch

As mentioned, the system checks the resistance of the circuit, your probably using the 9006 wiring to turn on the ballasts.

at the DOT sign on the ballast

For those of you that don't know. Mickman is my son and I appreciate your help in this thread.

Yes the Hello 35 Watt HID'* are installed in the low beam headlight slots.
Yes it came with sockets for the HID'*
We haven't tried unplugging the HID low beams since we're not sure why the need to do so

I'm not sure whether your post is a statement or a question, could you elaborate please?

Thanks.

Much brighter, I'd post pictures but will wait untill this DIC problem gets resolved, that is if it can be resolved.

Thanks.
The light is on because the resistance in the standard headlight circuit is completley different with the ballast hooked up, than with a conventional halogen bulb left in it.

I did find the DOT sign funny because there is no add-on system that'* technically "legal". HID'* are nice though, I don't know If i could ever really go back..

Actually, the Hella Micro DE system is DOT approved. But the full micro DE system comes with projectors.

It looks like he has part of the kit, but not the whole thing, as hella doesn't make that temp of bulb, the box for the micro DE system is for the halogen version(just noticed that), and the connectors for the bulbs are not OEM.

I think you need to measure the resistance of the ballast and then find a resistor that makes up the difference in resistance. (between a 55w bulb and the ballast) and then get a resistor that can handle the 20watts

After I measure the resistance and figure out the proper resistor I need, how is it that I would have to wire it up?

Where could I buy the proper resistor once I know what I need?

Also, as I was searching for information on how to do this, I ran into this..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/bmw-H...QQcmdZViewItem

But I'm guessing there could be a much cheaper way to fix this?

Thanks,

Mick
