Default Factory Radio Harness Questions

Ok.. I have researched my problem for a while now.. I have read all of your stickies but can't find the answer I need. Let me explain and if there is anyone out there listening that can help I would greatly appreciate it.

2000 Sunfire - purchased the car with the radio wires cut off..I have researched this and understand that once that radio was pulled out the Daytime running lights will not work.. no keyfob, no chimes..no auto door locks while driving..I am assuming because of the BUS part of the radio. So i decided to try and install a factory match back into the car..I know that it is a theftlock system 2 and will have to have the dealership install VIN after the installation is complete.. Since I have no idea if this radio was a monsoon or not I have tried a couple of local dealerships to see if they could run my VIN number and tell me what type of radio was originally installed.. Both stated that the VIN was 'TOO OLD' but did state that most Sunfires that year had Monsoon radios if it came with a sunroof. No sunroof.. 2.2 engine .. not a GT.. so I would be safe to say it did not. I will assume that it came with factory CD player attached. All the sunfires that I have found in that year did.. Only difference was Monsoon or not.. Now.. I have a diagram that shows what each wire goes to on the back side of factory radio. But the plug that I will assume is the BUS (short ) side of the radio also has wires. The harness wires that are clipped for the radio match perfectly.. But I can not find where or how do I attach the BUS wires into that harness. I have checked and there are no other harnesses that I can see in the dash. And that is my question.. How do these wires tie into the existing harness or is there some type of module missing that more wires should be coming from?

I have never heard of lights not working when the radio was disconnected. But, I do know on newer models, the door, idiot bells and whistles will go through the radio. Yes, some radios are programmed with the VIN.

VIN TOO old? Are you familiar with the white "RPO" sticker located on your spare tire cover? If its still readable, repost all the 3 letter/number codes. I might be able to tell you what system you have.

Can you post pictures of the harness and the radio plug?

x2 on never hearing of that, if your cars stuff like that is not working i would think its a problem with the BCM. ive changed the radio in my old 03 monte and my 07, and my 99 yukon. none have any issues like you say. the yukon is no effect, the 03 had settings you have to have the radio to change(i kept the old one and if i want plugged it in to change then put the old aftermarket one back). the 07 i lost chimes only which is really nice those noises are annoying

Perhaps I didn't explain it correctly. Daytime running lights come on (headlights only, no tail lights or instrument cluster) as they should when first starting the car as they should. But once it becomes dusk and dark the headlights stay on but no dash lights or tail lights unless I physically turn on the lights. Also the automatic door locks do not lock when placing car in gear or driving. I was told at the dealership that the fob to release the trunk (it only releases door locks and trunk lock) would not work until the factory radio was installed. They also stated that not only would I lose the key in the ignition chime but I would also lose the chime for overheating or low oil pressure as well as the low fuel chime. It does have a temp gauge in the dash but only a light for low oil pressure. I have wired in the larger plug (except at this point I have not added the purple wire (data wire) but still do not know where the wires from the small plug tie into. There are no more wires let on the harness that comes from radio area.

When you look at all GM radios they all seem to have two plug-ins on the back.. the larger one for the radio and the smaller one for what I would think is the bus? plug. Guess I will pull the radio out of the grand am that I have and see where the wires to the small plug goes.

first and foremost dont trust the stealership parts replacers.
second: i looked through diagrams for your car.
your drls work as they should and it doesnt mention anything about having auto headlights so you have to physically turn the switch. i dont have the diagram for the radio, but your other problems are not likely caused by the radio either.

did you get something like this? so you will have both sides. i dont think that they would completely take those wires out maybe they just clipped the harness further in. did you try looking from the bottom up?

Yes.. those are exactly the plugs that I have for the car. Unfortunately I have search thru the harness. I have peeled back the tape that covers the harness. I can not find any other harness inside. I removed both the heat/ac unit and the glove box and can find nothing. I have several vehicles on my lot that I had hoped would show me what I was looking for but every one of them have had the radio harness cut out and aftermarket cd players installed... Grr.. Dont understand how I can build an engine and install it but I can not do a simple factory radio installation!

See if you can find a module similar to this under the dash area.
