Stock Tape Deck Question - 2000 Silverado
Hi there. Sorry for the lengthy noob question...
I have a 2000 Silverado LT. I decided to buy one of those cheap cassette tape aux converter things for my iPhone to play my music through it. I noticed the sound quality was awful and the sound mainly came through one speaker (normal, since the driver'* side speaker was blown), so I replaced both door speakers.
Now, the sound quality is still terrible and still only comes out one side. I'm wondering why this is, because I'm looking to buy an Aux-Box from Pac Audio so I can directly run my iPhone through an aux source on my factory deck, and I don't want to waste $80+ just to find out the sound quality is bad. Please help me out!
Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, anyone know where to find a "sleeve" or compartment to replace the old tape deck in my console?
Thanks

your limitation is the factory HU. i wouldnt waste 5 dollars let alone 80 when you can get a aftermarket unit like the sony i got for my yukon, for 130 its HD, full ipod control with tagging, has aux inputs and sounds twice as good as the factory radio even with stock gm speakers.
as far as the little pocket look at the junk yard for a truck that only has the base radio and should have the cover

Your sound quality is so horrible due to the tape deck adapter.Im also assuming the reason your only getting sound from one speaker is also because of the tape adapter they werent made to sound good they were so you could play cds in your car back in the day as you know.I personally put aftermarket headunits in all of my vehicles including my 2000 2500 silverado and my 2001 suburan.

Thanks for the replies.
You're probably right, i should just go with a new deck. that Sony looks good.
does it have an aux in the back too? i'd like to run the Aux cord from the back so it doesnt hang in the way on my console, you know?

And im not sure if you know what i mean. On the 2000, the tape deck is below the radio cluster. Im planning on removing it, so there will be a hole there.
Was wondering if anybody knew of a parts site that would have a compartment to fill that empty space. I did the same thing with the cassette deck on my 91 GM. Just cant remember where i ordered it...

Its just on the front. i know what your talking about, for the 91 too, i had a 89 i got the hu and kit from crutchfield and it came with a thing to make the radio spot into cd holder. i havent seen one for the newer trucks though, base trucks didnt have that so they have to have something there

i guess if you got the console you got the tape deck, seems weird not many people have tapes. you may have to fab something or leave it.
