Default High Oil Pressure & Other Issues

My 2000 SE w/ 94k miles has been giving me a few issues lately - I noticed last week that my Oil Pressure has been pegged at 120 (the gauge doesn't seem to be stuck, goes up, down, up when the car starts) and I've been having some other problems cropping up.

On Monday morning (it was 20* out on Friday when I parked it and 50* on Monday) it started easy, but ran really rough for about 30 seconds before the engine smoothed out. Yesterday, after about 45 minutes of driving, it started shuddering under acceleration and feeling like the torque converter was locking up, I don't have a scanner but the SES light was tripped. Restarting the car seemed to fix the problem, but it may have been starting again at the end of my commute this morning.

I had some issues that seemed to be the PCS about 8-10,000 miles ago, but changing the fluid / filter and adding Seafoam fixed the issue and this is the first time there have been issues since. This doesn't feel the same either - it'* not a single hard shift, but more hesitation and shuddering.

I've checked the oil and it'* about due for a change, but not low or burned. My temps are normal and my mileage is about normal too.

Does anyone have any suggestions or things to look into to fix this problem? If this is going to be a big issue I want to trade this in before I'm stuck having to fix it.

You high oil pressure reading is likely a bad oil pressure sender. When it goes bad, it goes to maximum. Your other problem has several causes. Get the code read, and let us know what it is, and we'll go from there.

Thanks for your help! I didn't know it maxes when the sending unit goes out but I'll take a look at that this weekend if I get a chance.

I'll try and scan too - Autozone stopped loaning out code scanners so I'll probably have to buy one...not a bad idea to have one though.

That'* what they do around here, too. If you're short on cash, that would be the way to go for now. Then, when you can afford it, at least a code reader, if not a scanner, would be a great thing to have.
