I have a black 2001 SE. The body is in great shape except for two parts. I need to replace the rear door applique and there is another section that I wonder about. the bottom of my car just below the bottom back corner of the door, in front of the rear tires. Both sides of my car at this area have these white cloudy spots on them. I think its from water being splashed on it during rainy weather. I dont know what caused it but it really stands out. Have you guys seen this before? Does it sound like something I can buff out? Or do you think i'd need to have it repainted? Thanks in advance guys

correction- its not at the back corner. It is kinda towards the middle where the body flares out a little. I hope i am describing the location well.

ya its a common spot, stuff off of the front tires makes hits the flared out part....its even worse on the SLE and SSEI

I would try to buff and wax it out first. If the clear coat and paint are not compromised, then it should come out.

so i should just use my regular wax with an orbital buffer and there is a chance that it may come out? Or would i need one of those serious buffers The reason I asked is because my buffer was from a local meijer store. They carry them at walmart too if that helps

Clay bar and wax, then use a normal buffer like you already have. And live with the results. "Serious buffers" and Rubbing compounds needs a practiced hand and better equipment. I've seen more damage caused by people that think buffing out with rubbing compounds/serious buffers looks/sounds easy enough. Its not, leave it to professionals. You can burn/strip/gouge a painted surface in seconds.

Like Venom said...buffing compounds and buffers can do more damage than good if you do not use care. You could try some fine grit or finish compound and do it by hand. But, try the clay bar first...it'* amazing what those can pull from the paint.
