I need help again. My 2000 Bonn still leaks and I'm on leak #3 now (no sun roof).

Straight to it: Is water known to seep through the floor on the Bonn?

Story: I took all the carpet out a month ago after I had a clogged AC drain. The carpet is still out because I still have leaks so the metal chassis and wiring is all exposed.

Unblocking the AC drain stopped the worst of the leaking. Days later, it rained while parked and I noticed more water behind the drivers seat on the floor (rear passenger foot area). With no sun roof I checked door seals and discovered a kink in the metal flange which holds the drivers door seal. Fixed the kink and re-fit the seal. Checked today after a lot of rain and it'* bone dry.

Drove through rain tonight and still found small amounts of water pooling on the floor behind the driver seat and, along the place where the door-frames-meet-chassis-frame. There'* a bead strip of silicone.

Is this normal? The patches of rust suggest it'* gone on for a long time. Can I seal the overlapping metal plate with pitch/equivalent and heavy duty foil/equivalent ?

Check the underside of the car for a rust threw hole. Check the insides of the wheel wells. Can you see any paths the water may have followed? Check the drain hose on the antenna.

The two most common sources of leaking in your year are the plastic water deflectors in the doors and the trunk seal.

The best fix known on the deflectors is to pick up a tube of weatherstrip adhesive and regoop them well along the bottom edge. Once you get in there you'll see the goop is well below the drain hole and allowing water to sit until it finally seeps through etc.

No rust underneath, no antenna - I think it'* embedded in the windshield. I'll get a photo and draw where the water appears. I looked again today, and the water is absolutely coming in where the sheet metal overlaps. Water is seeping around all the factory caulking on the floor.

Cool. What do the deflectors look like ?

Check the trunk out real good and see if the pad is wet in there mine leaked into the trunk and ran all through the floorpans to the front of the car from a hole underneath the fuel door.

If you pull the door panel there is a plastic barrier on the door. That'* the water deflector.

ahh cool. i've seen that. i dont think that is it. i drove around for a week with talcum powder along the chassis/door frame and no water crossed it. i'll check again.

Then into the trunk you go. After that.. you got me on leaks.

Climb in the trunk with a flashlight and have a cohort run water of the trunk while you look for leaks. You may have to pull the trunk seal and use some RTV to in the seal bead area and stick it back down. For mine, the water perked up at the bottom of the seal near the latch.
