Default Noise under dash?

There is a vibration noise somewhere in the dash behind the instrument panel when I am at idle. It goes away when I accelarate. Can someone tell me how to remove the panel so I can try to find the noise and stop it? Any thing I need to look out for as I remove it?
Thanks,
Bill

There are two plastic rivets going up into the fascia above the instrument cluster. Press the center of the rivets upward (pics 1 & 2) and then carefully pry the rivets out (pic 3).

Pry the trim ring off the ignition switch (pic 4) notice I put electrical tape around the screwdriver blade to avoid marring the trim. Then pull out the 'cubby hole' on the left of the wheel (pic 5). Tilt the wheel all the way down and pull the panel off the dash (pic 6).

Reach behind the right side and disconnect the connector(pic7). Carefully tweek the panel to get it around the wheel and out of the way.
after you get this far, you will really like how GM designed it. The cluster, radio and ECC all come out simply by pushing some tabs.

the fascia is the part shown in the pictures, sometimes called the dash bezel. The main part that is being taken off in the pictures.

Do these "rivets" need to be taken out to remove the panel? Also, do you think if I do this, it will give me access to find and stop whatever makes the vibrating/knocking sound in the dash?
Thanks,
Bill

Yes, the rivets need to come out

No, I don't think you will find much behind the clusters, because, quite frankly, there is nothing behind there. However, its easy enough to start there and work your way down the list.
