changing inner tie rod end
I've changed outer tie rod ends several times but never an inner. Anyone have any tips? Dan, do we have a write up for this? I have to change my right (passenger side) inner tie rod end.

special tool required to hold part of it. Looks like a tube wrench kinda thing. I think it'* rentable at most parts stores. I hear overall though it'* easy. Then you zip tie the boot shut again.

Thanks for the tip Bill. I called my local part store and they have the special tool. Its like a really deep (like 2' deep) socket. One end has different fittings that adapt to the specific tie rod, the other end is for a 1/2" drive socket wrench. The whole thing fits over the tie rod after you remove the outer end.
I will try to get some pics when I do it.

Replacing the inner tie rod requires the removal of the boot on the rack. The hardest part here is to loosen it. As far as I can remember I think I used a pipe wrench to do this.
Actually, the boot is secured by a clenched metal band clamp. I removed it with a Dremel and a carbide burr, being careful to cut through the metal but not into the rubber boot. Not sure where you would use a pipe wrench in the process.

Did you rent the tool from them?
I thought about renting one, but opted to buy this one from HFT.
Inner Tie Rod Removal Set
I regret getting that set from HFT as I had to use my dremel on the tool, and the socket for the tool, or I could not get the tool to work properly, they machined those sets horribly IMO.

I call it rent, but it ends up costing nothing since they return your money when you return the tool. It'* more of a deposit than rent.
