Service Stability System message - No Traction Control
Lately the Service Stability System message has been popping up speratically on the message center on my 2002 Bonneville SSEi. With it my traction control cuts off. After I cut the car off and back on again it clears...sometimes it comes right back, sometimes it won't come back for a few days.
Anybody have any ideas on what'* causing it?

Its a common issue having the Stability Light come on with these cars. Most the time its nothing major and you can just hit a button and it goes away. Other times it may indicate poor connections on your Wheel Speed Sensors. These basically make ABS and Traction Control happen.
You can try spraying electrical clean on these Sensors' contacts to remove corrosion, but it didn't fix my warning light. Maybe its time to replace the wheel bearings? Hard to tell, but you will hear them when a bearing goes bad.
My light comes on 3-4 times a day on my 30mile drive to or from work. Brakes work fine (well I need pads/rotors, lol) and Traction Control works the instant I hit a patch of black ice. I did have something similar to your problem happen twice...
I typically drive with cruise control on and both times it was on. I would suddenly feel the car slow down and notice cruise control turned off and my Traction Control AND Stability Light were on at the same time. I lightly got on the gas and both lights turned off and when I reset cruise it worked fine.
Maybe someone can jump in and explain more as to why this is happening.

i have been dealing with the SSS issues and i think there were brought on by me but anyway i digress....
there are about 10 different things that can set the SSS light. the only way to know what is happening ( the car will store and keep body codes) is to get a scan. Now this can be done with a Tech 2 from the dealer, a Scan tool that will do Body/ABS codes or a Tuner. The Tuner will not allow you to clear the codes like the Tech 2 and the Scanner will..
best advice is to get a scan, find out what is going on and move from there. There are too many variables to even begin to try and help you without knowing the codes

The most common cause is a bad wheel speed sensor in one of the hubs, but even with that, you would have only a one in four chance of hitting it right. Things like the lateral accelerometer, yaw rate sensor, and steering position sensor could also enter in, but those generally don't set the TC/ABS lights. The Electronic Brake Control Module, could do it also, which is a very expensive part. Get it scanned, and we'll know where to go from there.
