Default Engine cutting out

Here is my problem, the engine cuts out like a switch is being flipped off and back on. It does it at idle, when accelerating or driving at a steady speed. I replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs. I have checked the plug wires, fuel pressure(48 psi at idle and 53 psi turning the key on),coils(cleaned the contacts) and cleaned the air flow sensor. I cleaned up the ground under the hood and the ground by the battery. Nothing else blinks or shuts off when it does this.

Check the positive cable, both ends. Check over the ignition wiring harness to make sure nothing is grounding out.

Typically the 2000'* don't suffer battery cable issues. While it is always a good free check, it'* not typical.

Your symptoms sound very standard for a crank sensor beginning to fail. The downside is they are intermittent and frequently don't throw any codes. If you get any codes for crank/18X/3X or the car starting in gear etc, that would point directly to the crank sensor. That'* the only way our cars will start in gear w/o us turning a key or manually jumping the starter. And the key would require the car to be in P or N to start.

If it is the crank sensor that is bad, how hard is it pull the balancer and reinstall it and do you have to do a crankshaft position sensor variation relearn procedure.

The balancer ir relatively easy as long as you have a puller with three M6 x 1.00 x 75-85mm bolts on hand. These bolts are not typically part of a puller kit. Without them, you'll hate yourself when trying to pull a balancer. With them..it'* quick and easy. The sensor overall is cake to replace. Just have the bolts ahead of time.

Technically you would want a case/crank variation learn after doing the procedure, however 99% of mechanics don't do them as long as the car runs well.

My car is doing the same thing... Just wondering if the crank sensor fixed it??

Thanks
