Default Disturbing rattling noise underneath...

I have an inconsistant rattling noise that appears to be coming from under the car and sounds like a muffler problem but I wanted to make sure it is not the dreaded LIM coming to bite me in the a**! I will try and get a sound clip so you can hear it for yourself but it reminds me of when we had a lining of a muffler break loose in our Fiat way back when! Any thoughts would be appreciated...there are no visible signs of LIM failure and just changed the oil which look pretty good for only having 25% life left! The coolant resevoir looks good too so I am hoping that is not the case. And yes I am running premium gas now since last time I posted about this sound.

Any thoughts??

a LIM failure does not have any noise

sounds like it could be a loose, broken or leaky exhaust system... just get under there and look

Give your catalytic converter a kick to see if that rattles.

Kick it side to side and up and down. My last one would only rattle up and down.

By the time they are done kicking it...it'll have a problem.

BTW..kick it cold...hot it will melt your sneakers. One of Wren'* Keds says "Magnaflow" on the sole.

Thanks for the advice Boost...I will put my steel toed shoes on before kickin' the sh** out of it. This is the last thing I needed to happen right now!! To have such a great car and have it sound like this is just plain torture especially when a nice ripe "Stang" pulls up along side!!!

Haro...don't plan on going there!!! Way to many accidents happening around here lately so I think I'll keep all 4 on the ground. I'll be climbing under there tonight when it cools off and start moving and shakin' thing to see what rattles!! It is just kind of random that it doesn't do all the time. Oh, well search and restore right??

Would'nt the malfunctioning catalytic converter have a negative impact on the performance of the car? I have not noticed any decrease in performance at all just that horrible rattling!

OK, I am just gonna have to take it into a muffler shop...I was just hoping to have something definite to combat the, almost sure, run around and false truths that are always anticipated at most all shops.

I trust you guys (and Gals) totally and that is why I always ask for your opinions and recommendations before I take it anywhere! Thanks,

Mac
