I bought my 2002 bonneville in jan. this is my third bonneville and have had no major problems with my 95 and 98. This car on the other hand has given me the most trouble out of any car I have ever owned. It has only 63000 miles on it and the right rear shock blew two weeks after purchase then both rear windows fell down in the same week (I left for work at 7am in 35 degree weather with no rear window on the pass. rear 4 days later no window on drivers side rear) the regulators went bad. It has been o.k. for about three months, now I have freezing cold ac on pass. side vents and hot as h### on my side. I checked the r134a and its in the good zone on my recharge kit. The compressor sounds fine the fans both come on it seems fine under the hood. I have a *.e. and it has man. heat/cold **** I moved it around with no help. I checked all my modes def. floor recirc. it all works fine. I cant figure it out,any help would be great. P.*. Two weeks ago my steering when parking makes a clunking felt through the steering wheel.Thanks-Ron

As you're responded in the window regulator thread, you now know of the fix for the rear window regulators.

As for your A/C, you likely have a bad air mix actuator. Here'* one thread on that.

The clunking in your steering is probably the intermediate steering shaft. This is the techinfo article on that.

Thanks for all the info, I closed the vents for now it sounds like it might be the actuator I just hope its the one on the pass. side it sounds a whole lot easier to replace. Do you know anything about testing it or should I give it a tap or two first before removing it? Thanks for all the info archon.

If changing the temperature setting doesn't change the temperature, that makes it an almost certainty that is the problem. As a test, you could try turning it all the way to hot, with the key on, and then disconnect the battery for a short time. Then reconnect the battery, and see if it works then. After a power loss, it should try to reset itself.

Air Door Actuator / Motor

Do I pull the cable with the key forward or do I just turn the key forward while turning it to complete heat? Do I need to leave it of for some time or just seconds? The other thing that seems weird is that I dont see the battery. I looked for it under the over flow container in the wheel wells (like my corvette from years ago) I also checked the trunk compartment. I chased wires from the starter that go towards the middle of the car. Does it mount from underneath? I looked under the hood for thirty minutes yesterday if I missed it I need to quit working on my cars. Thanks-Ron

Just turn the key to the run position. You can start it if you wish, but it'* not necessary. Turn all the way hot, and leave it that way for maybe about a minute. Turn the key to off, the pull the rear seat out (jerk straight up on the front about in the middle) and you'll find the battery. (You don't have to quit working on your cars yet ) and remove the negative battery cable. About a minute again should do it.

While you're back there, you may as well remove the bolt holding the other end of the negative cable to the floor pan, and clean it and the threads in the floor pan, coat with dielectric grease and reinstall. That connection has been known to be an issue.

Connect the negative cable back to the battery, put the seat back in, and again turn the key to run, and leave it that way for about another minute. Then you can start the car, turn on the a/c and see if it helped.

HI, I started my bonneville project this weekend I fixed my intermediate shaft with no problems. I saw that it had been greased before because it had duct tape wrapped around the boot. Im just wondering about how long will this fix last. I also wonder what went wrong with it and what benefit would I receive with a new assembly. My other problem still exists a/c on pass. and rear, heat on drivers vents. I opened up the glove box and saw that only one bolt was holding the actuator in place although its working fine. I saw it move the shaft when heat/cool were activated. I also took it off and moved the door with ease. I tried reseting the system with pulling the batt. no luck. I heard the other actuator may be under te drivers side dash. I looked around with no positive result. Thanks for all help Archon.

Go back to the link listed about, go with the service and repair, and it will step you through the process of removing the temperature actuator for the left side. BTW, what reading did you have for pressure?

Did you happen to notice if the old actuator worked, and when it was out, whether or not the door to which it attached moved freely?

The actuator works great, I pulled it off and I can turn the shaft easy. As far as r-134a my recharge kit had read in the upper middle of the safe zone.
