Blower motor not coming on as of today. Checked fuse under back seat and all looked good. Controller shows the fan speed ramping up, but nothing happens. Looked at the fuseblock under the hood and there is a relay #33 for something on the HVAC system, its not there. Should it be? I have read some of the articles on cleaning out the filter area, but would this stop the fan altogether. It was not making any noise or anything wierd.

Start by give the blower motor a good smack with something. It'* on the passenger side roughly behind the glove box. You may have to pull the sound insulator on the passenger side to see it. If it starts, replace the motor. If not, pull the electrical connection and see if it is getting power.

If you pop your hood and look on the pass side under the windshield you should see a little door that says something along the lines of passanger air filter, pull that out and look in there to see if there are any leaves in the blower motor. if after cleaning or if there is nothing in there it could be the board in the blower motor. if you look at the bottom of your blower motor assy. you will see a connector behind the motor, disconnect it and remover the board (1/4" or 5/16" i believe) and you will be able to tell if it is burnt up or not

Pulled the filter and tapped the rotor with a screwdriver and she came on. Probably a bad motor right? Not enough induction in the windings to get it started by itself? I was traveling when this happened, so limited time and tools. It did come on occasionally on its own on the way home. Other times I would have to help it along.

It'* generally either a problem with the bearings or brushes.

I would replace the blower motor, if you can spin it and get it to start moving then the problem is within the motor just like Archon sugested

Does anyone have the part number for the motor from Advance or Auto Zone. I called them and they cannot locate. Could this be a "dealer only" part? I thought I had read on here somewhere that someone bought one from AA or AZ, just cannot find the post now.

I checked Autozone and Advance online and couldn't find it either. May want to check NAPA or PepBoys if you have them around you. Otherwise, looks like a trip to the dealer, or something like GM Parts Direct.

I think I've got it covered. I bought the $225 one from the dealer yesterday to have over the weekend in case I needed it. I'm pretty sure I'll be returning that one. It turns out that in 2002 there were 2 different blowers used, one was supposed to correct an error on the first design. I just so happen to have the first design in my car, and I think I know what the flaw was. Pulled the bottom panel of the dash and had easy access to the motor. I pulled the connector off and reinserted it and bam, the thing worked like a champ, at first I thought it may have just had corrosion on it, but I rushed to put the panels back on and tried it again, and nothing. Pulled apart again and jiggled the connector, this seemed to be the problem, a loose connection somewhere. I dropped the motor out and pulled the bottom end cap and brushes assembly off. On the internal side of the connector, far right pin is a ground with a resistor, upon close inspection the pin also curves around the brush assembly to provide a ground to the motor housing when closed together. This pin was corroded and not making proper contact with the motor casing, thus causing my intermitant operation. The pin is also very short and should be longer to properly connect to the housing. I cleaned the pin and point of connection up, inserted a small strand of #18 wire under the pin that allows positve contact with motor casing, put it all back together and she runs like a champ. Can jiggle the connector to he!! and back and she purrs like a kitten. I have previously worked on a lot of electric motors and am an electrical engineer, so I felt comfortable doing this. But the next time someones motor quits, they should look at this before spending the dough for a new one.

Thanks for reporting back on what you found. I don't suppose that you took any pictures of the process while you were doing it so a step by step process could be posted? I'm sure there are many who would do the repair as opposed to shelling out that kind of money. Glad to hear that you found the problem.
