look where the speedo is, above all those you will see to black circles with a little circle in the middle
looks like that above, but cleaner well take some small and push on the center piece, the little circle. once you do that on both, pull them out of the dash. next remove the ring around the key hole, it just pops off... next just very carefully remove the plastic piece. its all one piece covering to above the traction control button is. these directions arent the best, someone else will chime in with more. its really easy to do! just be careful!

before you rip the dash off, pop the hood and open the cover for where the cabin air filter should be. You may see debris in here that is creating the noise (especially when the fan is on). Just remove it (with the fan off). This happened to me constantly becuase of the pine trees at my old apartment.

mremer:
thanks
I checked the cabin air filter compartment, nothing abnormal there.
I still have to take the whole dash board off I think.
Thanks for the illustration. I don't know if "dash board" is the right words. I meant the whole piece that covers the top of the dash board (in between wind shield and steering wheel). I did take the front piece off but have no idea how to get that big piece.
thanks

That'* usually called the dash pad by most people. I'll look in the service manual tonight (maybe tomorrow) and see if there'* anything in there that will help you.

here are the steps for removing the Instrument Panel Pad from the 2000 Service Manual:
1) Remove left and right windshield garnish moldings. - This is some sort of trim piece nthe windshield pillar
2) Remove the defroster grill. - carefully pry upwardin order to release the retainers (look to be 5 of them). Then disconnect the sensor
3) Remove the Instrument Panel trim plate bezel
4) Remove the right side end cap
5) Remove the fastners that secure the instrument panel upper trim pad to the carrier - There look to be 5 underneath where the defroster is, and one under the right side end cap
6) Lift the pad upward to disengage the retainers from the Instrument Panel. - Look to be 3 tabs or so in the front.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Hope this helps. If you want pics, send me a PM and I'll scan the page in and send it to you.
