Hey guys...I've noticed under somewhat hard acceleration 60mph+ (only occasionally, and it seems when the car is warmed up esp. during highway driving but this could just be a fluke bc most of my driving is highway i.e. 80+ miles a day) the transmission (atleast I think thats what it is) starts whirring. It seems to sort itself out and stop whirring. Today the whirring was pretty loud for the first time. Wonder what this is...hopefully not a sign of tranny failure. It doesn't seem to slip or anything...but I do drive it like I stole it.

I don't have an SSEi so it'* obviously NOT supercharger whir, lol...I wish it were.

How many miles since the last transmission service or original build...which ever came last?

Well I can't really say. I've had the car since about April and have had no problems. It has 86,000 miles on it now, it had 78,000 when I bought it. Its the originally tranny. No idea if its ever been serviced. According to the dealer it was one owner and they were old and drove carefully. That'* evident as the car looks nearly showroom new inside and out and has relatively low miles for an 01.

Today it did it right at startup, but not nearly as loud. Its not a real loud sound in the first place, but its definitely noticeable. Like a whirring / whining type of sound. I drove it into work this morning driving it pretty carefully...thankfully the giant storms and slow traffic helped, lol.

I am thinking it'* time to perform a trans service on it. This is a pan drop with filter change and refill. Overall inexpensive and will let you see what is going on inside the pan..

I called around and most places recommended a transmission "flush", flushing out 100% of the ATF and replacing it as well as the filter, seal, etc.

I've heard yes' and nos regarding tranny flushes..whats the story on the Bonnie?

Also...could it be anything else making that noise? I would imagine if it were the tranny that it would be making it all all speeds, as opposed to just under acceleration...but Im usually wrong, sooo..lol.

Could it be a belt..or something else?

The scoop on a trans flush is this..if you are having trans issues..it won't hurt..but it'* not a magical curre. Most consider a flush when their trans is about to die. Then all the friction material floating in the fluid is flushed and you lose a little abrasion..that might be allowing it to work poorly.

Overall..it'* clean fresh fluid. This is why I suggest a filter/pan drop. Then you retain at least hafl the fluid and there'* no shock to the system.

Eh...I dunno, it doesn't really sound like what a typical belt slipping sounds like. It'* more of a kind of high pitched whirring whining sound. Not too loud tho. And not always.

What about the alternator whine? I have had that before my alternator went bad.
Any sign of your dash lights dimming?

Not that I've noticed, but I haven't been watching for it. I'll pay attention tonight and let ya know.

I have the same thing. It has gotten worse slowly. I think it is my electric fan that is giong bad.
