Default Super Chargers...

I am looking to buy a 2000 SSEi with a supercharger and I was told that they are not very trustworthy after 100,000 miles and are expensive to rebuild or replace. Can anybody confirm or deny this statement? I have never had a super charged engine but this vehicle is in very, very good condition and I will be having my mechanic check it out. Can some one tell me what it costs to repair or repalce a supercharger and if they are worth buying at 92,000 miles? Thanks for any info!!

One member just turned 260,000 miles with his SC L67 3800 so you shouldn't be afraid of that mileage. These engines are very well designed.
You will have to be prepared to tear into it and do some maintenance like replacing all the fluids and some critical gaskets.
The supercharger can be upgraded by some aftermarket vendors for less than $500 if required but usually it'* just a $50 coupler that'* needed.

Thanks for the info...we are going to have this checked out on Monday. Also, the oil pressure gauge is pegged so I am assuming it will need replacing or might it be something simple such a * fuse? Is there anything about this car that I should be checking based on you experience? Thanks again,

Mac

its a $25 dollar sender that need replacing to get the oil pressure correct again

and it should be known that the Supercharger is the most reliable part of the vehicle....the supercharger will outlast every part of the drive train and also the entire car

If I thought that it was just me that had a lemon, I wouldn't be saying this but the problems are well documented and wide spread.
While I don't doubt your issues, it sounds like you got the proverbial lemon. No matter how good the cars are, they always produce one that'* a bit sour.

The L67 is FAR less troublesome than the L36.

The supercharger itself is good for at LEAST 150,000 miles before maintenance (that you can do yourself) when left in stock form.

I really appreciate all of your candor. I am going to request all of the maintenance records as the current owner has stated they have had absolutely no problems with this car. It sounds like this will be a good purchase from the majority of what I have read but we'll see what our Mechanic says tomorrow. Thanks again!!

Use the hearsay to negotiate a better deal...even though we just denied all the hearsay. Good luck!

There are times I wish "My Bonne lies over the ocean, My Bonne lies under the sea". And there are times I need to tell the shop "Oh bring back my Bonne to me". LOL & welcome.

Picked the car up day before yesterday and absolutely love it. Now we are wondering why our '05 SE is so much different. Night and Day!! Anyway, hopefully I can get some pictures put up soon. If not taking a drive in it this weekend the corners are being cleared! Then I will be looking into that FWI! Thanks mucho every Bonne Dude and Dudette.
