Sunroof Problems-3 Pictures
We finally have some warmer weather here and so I decided to have my step-dad help me try and diagnose the problem with my sunroof.
I have tried looking for other people with close to the same problem and I am not really sure what exactly is wrong, and so I am not sure....I don't think I have any problems with the moon roof wind deflector in this post though.
The motor itself seems to be working fine. You can hear it working and it doesn't make any unpleasant sounds. It runs for a long time and then the glass opens about a half an inch in the back, and if you want it to go back down you have to push it down yourself.
This is my first car with a sunroof and I'm not positive, but I am pretty sure it is supposed to do more than that.
After he took the glass off, we could see the track and it looks like the whole arm that the glass screws on to should move back so that the glass is actually over the roof of the car a little bit. But I am not sure....
He moved the arm up and down manually to try and see what the problem might be, and we found this little piece broken off and just laying there, and he didn't break it off himself.

When we looked closer we found the metal arm? (not sure what to call it) that it is supposed to be connected with, and it clearly wasn't. We only found one broken off piece, but the metal arms on both sides were not attached to anything.

We took off the metal arm and the end of it that wasn't attached to anything fit perfectly onto the broken off piece. And I put it into the spot that made the metal arm actually fit into both spots, the farthest back area where it is in the picture below and where it screws in to the sunroof arm in the down position.

Has anyone else had a problem like this and if so will I have to replace the whole track for the sunroof or just a few parts?
Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

I had a 97 SSE with the same break. about the only thing you can do is replace the sunroof tracks. you can however find good sunroofs at junk yards. they cost anywhere from $75 to $140 depending on the yard.
I've tried JB Welding mine but no success.
sorry about the broken track. it sucks I know.
But with some time and effort you can have a working sun roof again.

Yeah that does kinda stink then....But I figured with as much that was broken it might even be easier to replace the whole thing.....I will have to search around for a sunroof and see how I want to fix it, or just replace it completely.
And the junkyard is a great idea, I would much rather spend $75-140 than $600 for a new sunroof. Because I could spend around $600 for something much more useful for my car than a sunroof.
Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

Yes, I am sure. I have had me and two other people try to work it. There is just a lot broken in it.
Okay. Thank you so much! I will have to go out and measure it. And I know that it says it is for Grand Prix'* so it would fit my Bonneville as long as its 27 or 32 inches? I know that Bonneville'* and Grand Prix'* have their similarities....
