Default Steering joint, and shocks...

Hey guys, wow, its literally been years since I've been on here. I had sold my 92 bonne (with 387k miles on it), then got a Park Ave, then a Dodge Dakota... and now I'm driving a Lexus LS... My wife however is driving an 01 bonne SE.

When we got it, the steering "knuckle"?? was "dry" and had a little clunk when turning. We didn't have it fixed right away, and when we did, my mechanic said it had gotten worse- he would try to repack it, but it may need to be replaced. Now, we're ready to have it done, and he thinks the part may be on national back order??? What is this part? Is it hard to find? Is it gonna be real expensive?

Second, the rear shocks are going bad, and I'm considering replacing them myself. Can anyone give me a decent brand and model of shock (or is it strut) to use? Also, anybody have instructions and maybe like pics from a Haynes? If its beyond me, I'll have it done... just trying to save a little, and I recall you guys said a long time ago it wasn't a huge deal.

Thanks for the help!

Hey Jeff;

The rear shocks aren't bad at all to replace. They are air shocks and lots of enthusiasts have installed the MONROE Part # MA822 and speak highly of them. I have a set in my garage that I will be putting on my 2000 SSEi when I get a spare moment.

As far as the steering "knuckle" could it be the intermediate shaft your mechanic mentioned?
