Rear Shock Mounts
One of my rear shock mounts is on its way out, it started knocking and rattling a bit.
Is this common? Anyone else have one give out on them yet?

I just replaced mine about two weeks ago... I started hearing some rattling coming from the right rear. I was already in need of new shocks so I replaced the shocks and mounts at the same time. The mounts cost $25 more than the damn shocks. When I removed the bad mounts you could see the bushings had seperated from the rubber and were sliding up and down in the mount. I asked the local Pontiac dealer and they said they had seen it a few times. They said that the bad mounts are usually caused by failing air shocks. Rides great and no more rattles.
BTW, how many miles on your car toastedoats? I have a little over 65k....

Sorry, I thought it was Achron, but I see it'* Archon.
If you need to replace the mounts, I'd suggest getting the more expensive ones. I bought some less expensive ones and they made as much noise as the bad ones. Also, I'd recommend the Monroe shocks. I bought some that I though were to be Monroes (they ordered them), but they were not. They had a different design, and while the car holds the road well with them, they ride like you're in a buck-board.

Archon, when you mention the more expensive struts/mounts are you speaking of the newest thing I heard about.
One fo the makers calls is something like readistrut. They are complete with mounts and all. Merely pull them out of the box and bolt on. More costly however if your struts need to be replaced as well as the mounts, it may be cheaper than buying seperately.
