OK, my wife'* grandfather has an 01 or 02 LeSabre that needs the front wheel bearing hub replaced. My wife said we could do it for him to save him the cost of having a garage do it, however he said the last time he had someone do a wheel hub for him they did it wrong and messed up the ABS sensor and he had to buy a whole new wheel bearing hub two weeks later and have the garage do it for him.

So long story short, is the ABS sensor built into the wheel bearing hub? Because that'* what I'm being told, however the Hayne'* book I have for Pontiac/Buick/Olds does not mention anything about it.

Thanks, I was hoping maybe it was like my Grand Cherokee wich has the ABS sensor that goes into the steering knuckle behind the hub.

So, does having the ABS sensor part of the Hub make it more difficult to change or do I just have to be a little more carefull so I don't make a stupid mistake and mess up the sensor?

You remove the caliper and rotor, remove the axle nut and push the axle through the hub. Remove the 3 hub bolts behind the hub and seperate the hub from the strut housing. You have to pull the ABS sensor plug and wiring through the strut housing. It is awfully hard to mess up the sensor on this style hub,. Its all internal, Unless you damage the wiring. Are you sure its sensor and not the wiring harness before the sensor?

Not really sure what it was, I'm not the one who did the wheel hub last time, just going on what I was told happened.

Thanks for giving me an idea of what to expect though. The only wheel hubs I've done have been my Wrangler wich doesn't have any ABS to worry about screwing up and my Grand Cherokee wich does have ABS but it sounds like the sensor on the LeSabre is set up a bit differrently. Doesn't sound like it should too different.

Funny thing though, I put 150,000 hard driving miles on my '99 Bonne and never had to change a wheel bearing, bu this will be the third time one'* been replaced on a 60,000 mile car.
