Just a place to start though..

My first thought is a security problem. A proper scanner may be able to read the code whlie a little code scanner may not. Some scanners do not pick up codes that don't actually trip the SES light (tranny codes fall into this category). The theft deterrent module may be bad or the paskey sensor may not be reading the key. If you have swapped PCM'* then a security relearn may be in order (check the security light for steady on or blinking with the car in the on position after trying to start).
Listen for the fuel pump to prime in the on position before starting. If it primes it may not be security but could be something like the neutral safety switch in the trans. Try unlocking the gear selector and putting it in neutral to see if starts.

I just got home.
I put my key in and it starts now like nothing is wrong. :?
All the dash lights come on and no SES or codes. My code reader picks up all codes even the ones that are pending....but nothing shows up.
My wife does'nt want to drive it now because she is afraid of getting stranded.....that could be a good thing
When it didn't start, the fuel pump primed but no dash lights came on.
I am running with the original PCM so a relearn is not required. All connections are good and the battery is perfect.
I hesitate bringing it in to the dealer because he will just hose me by replacing sensors that may not have to be changed.
Ignition switch, neutral safety are a possibility. How can they be tested?
Could something be grounding out and causing it?

It was completely dry both times.
It only died that one time and just the engine quit, everything else was still on.
When it didn't start after that, no dash lights would come on....sort of like trying to start it in when the selector is in drive.....neutral safety switch???
I can't get it to repeat now. It starts and runs fine..... :?

Thats a really odd one Paul...running or not now, id still be a little concearned taking it someweres like a grocery store, the it not starting all over again....
Nuetral safety switch, generally that throws a code does it not?
I know with my car in gear, the lights and gages still cylce if u try to start it back up, but these cars also have an interlock cable running from the shifter up into the column, unless the 00'* are different.
This reminds me of when my VATS was acting up, no lights, nothing, just a security light flashing..

This what I got so far from an email from my daughter'* boyfriend.
Pretty much everything mentioned in that thread is what happened to my car. The dealership said it was a problem with the control module but they weren't sure which one. Their scan tools gave them various readings. Every time they replaced a module, it would "pull down the line" as the dealership put it and cause other modules to fail. They made numerous calls to the Pontiac engineers in Detroit who in turn, suggested they try a number of different solutions, none of which worked. The engineers claimed they have never seen this problem before and were not sure how to fix it, so they kept replacing various modules which would cause the existing ones to "trip". I'm almost positive that I have all of the service records in storage. If I find them, I'll scan them and email them to you. They basically show step by step what was done to the car and were actually very detailed. The annoying part of the experience was that after they would fix the problem, it would show up again, sometimes a day later or a week or two later and of course when it happened you were "dead in the water" .

Well, maybe it'* time for a trade in. ....or maybe I could get more for it if I part it out......headers, rockers, CAI, PCM, engine, trani, wheels, chassis, etc...
The 6 year warranty is up so I won't get much support from Mr. Goodwrench, other than fat bills.
I had my reservations about all the different transducers, modules and computer controls this car has with all its "Techno" features.....now my worst fears may be coming to fruition.
If I cut my losses now, I could finally put that $20 grand into my Firebird engine to make a more reliable 500 hp.......or maybe that SRT8
Laura drove it today and had no problems but who knows what will happen tomorrow....module, solenoids, PCM, window regulator, intermediate shaft, WSS, bearings, trani, axle shaft, LSD, A/C, anti-lock brakes, hood paint, ........
So don't be surprised if I show up at WCBF06 in my good ol Jeep......or maybe not at all.
