I have got to get this problem solved quick or it could jeopardize going to the Meet in Oregon...less than two months away. :(
It is running with the original PCM that was reprogrammed by INTENSE two years ago.
My spare PCM is a DHP used unit with unknown mileage....I don't really want to re-install it if I'm not sure that'* the problem.

You can watch at the "security" light , if it light off after couples of second like it should, it will not likely be the PCM.
But if the light stay on , it would mean that the PCM is not recognizing your VIN or PCM number (dont remember how its called) its like swapping PCM without doing the security relearn, the power is there but no start.
I dont know if this can be useful for you? :?

My initial thought would be ignition. If the car doesn't even turn over or do anything, and the battery cables are on the battery tight and have no corrosion or anything, then I'd say if it does it suddenly and then will start working again suddenly, it sounds like ignition switch. Just a place to start though..

specifically with the older cars it was the crank sensor going out as I have witnessed twice first hand with the older 3800s.
starter solenoid went out as well for me that caused a no crank whatsoever situation. no click, no nothing. Furthermore this problem obviously only occured on a cold start, and would magically fix it self until it died all thw way.
Again these are older cars we are talking about but I know they share a lot of the same features.

I'm not sure aboutt that crank sensor theory. There are actually two sensors built in, 3X and 18X...
Paul. Start off with the basics. Disconnect both sides of the battery cables, remove the boots..check for corrosion. Check connections at the engine. Check PCM connections and ICM, including the ICM harness to the rest of the main engine harness. Go over all sensors and double check them.
Remember anything you have been working on or near recently and double check those items.

I don't want to be the doom and gloom guy here, but it sounds just like the problem that my daughter'* boyfriend had with his 2000 SSEi lease vehicle. He had it in 5 times for it, replacing various modules. When his lawyer got him out of his lease, they still hadn't fixed it. He'* not a car guy, so he may not remember - but I'll see if he does know what they worked on with it.

I take it checking for codes didn't fix the problem again?
My first thought is a security problem. A proper scanner may be able to read the code whlie a little code scanner may not. Some scanners do not pick up codes that don't actually trip the SES light (tranny codes fall into this category). The theft deterrent module may be bad or the paskey sensor may not be reading the key. If you have swapped PCM'* then a security relearn may be in order (check the security light for steady on or blinking with the car in the on position after trying to start).
Listen for the fuel pump to prime in the on position before starting. If it primes it may not be security but could be something like the neutral safety switch in the trans. Try unlocking the gear selector and putting it in neutral to see if starts.
