I just replaced my EBCM and had it calibrated on my 2000 SSEi, the low traction light was flashing on and I would get a slight pull as if the brake was engaging slightly, this only lasted about 5 seconds, when I took the ABS fuse out there was no more braking pull........plus there were more codes like low tire pressure when the pressure was fine.......also sometime brake pulsateing....

Now it is doing it again but less frequently, and the scan with the Tech II only shows "steering sensitivity rate" error code and nothing else.......the Tech II guy turned down the sensitivity on the sensor and it was fine for 3 days and now it is doing the same thing........the code was cleared twice now and still the only code showing up is same one "steering sensitivity rate"

Should I replace my steering sensor to solve this problem and is it hard to change....

does the service stability system light come on in your DIC? it sounds like you may need to do the steering wheel position sensor. as for the false low tire that sounds like a hub.

The DIC shows first "Stability System Active" then disappears and the # 55 appears then disappears, this all takes approx. 5 seconds, also sometimes there is the slight brake pull but not always, and very very rarely the brake petal will pulsate when applied..

Then the DIC shows "Service Stability System" and # 54 appears again this takes approx. 5 seconds and disappears.....but sometimes the "Service Stability System" only comes on and I have to hit the reset to get rid of it, this happens 2 or 3 times every time I take it for a drive.

Now the "steering sensitivity rate" was picked up with the Tech II scanner along with the "low tire pressure" once the EBCM was replaced and calibrated these were the only two codes the Tech II scanner would detect. The "low tire pressure" had to be reset with the Tech II scanner and now never comes on anymore, only the "steering sensitivity rate" still scans up......the EBCM was calibrated a second time but same problem detected every time with the Tech II "steering sensitivity rate"

Originally the left front wheel baring was howling so I replaced the hub with a Delco top line hub, everything worked fine for approx. 3 months then I started having these problems, so I replaced the hub two more times no luck, then I replaced the EBCM and it seemed to make it better then before but now the problem is "steering sensitivity rate" as the only code shown with the Tech II scanner

I'm thinking that the steering sensor could be the problem, don't know what else to do, I think it all is tied in with the EBCM, unless the EBCM is somewhat defective, it was a used EBCM but it does show communication now on the Tech II scanner where the other one did not.

That does clear it up quite a bit Thanks. i would shoot for the steering wheel position sensor. that and the clock spring are wired together in the colum if one is out the car won't know where the steering wheel is and it will also affect your variable assist steering.

Okay thanks, one more thing I left out was I do have that little bit of clunk the odd time in the shaft, I did take it in to the dealer and they charged me 125 bucks and this lasted about 6 months before it came back, this was about 6 years ago....

So I took it to Steering specialist front end alignment shop who does all my front end alignments for over 30 years......he told me it is nothing to be concerned about as it'* just a bit of play which he could eliminate by taking the shaft out and applying grease.....but he said it will come back and this was a common problem with these cars......

So I assume this is not related to my current situation as the clunk has always been there........

Now how hard is it to change the "steering position sensor" ???

as far as the clunk goes that sounds like the intermediate shaft. check around in the how to section or tech info on how to fix it. while you are there doing the sensor the intermediate shaft is right below it so you can kill 2 birds with one stone there.

I picked up a new steering sensor and will attempt to install it this weekend, also will greade the intermediate shaft

But now I have a new electrical problem, my passenger power window works fine with the passenger button........but the driver'* side button will only put the window up, but will not allow me to put it down with the drivers button.....

I had the driver switch out and nothing jamming, the electrical all looks fine, I put electrical contat lube on all connections and still will not work.........any solution for this fix???

Well I did replace the steering sensor, and greased my intermediate shaft....... everything went well and seems to run now with out the traction light coming on.........however when I was turning the steering wheel after I bolted up the coloum I head a noise like a plastic clip breaking.......now my air bag light stays on.........so what did I screw up......it must have something to do with the breaking noise.....

Please tell me what I need to do to correct this, I assume it is safe to drive the car with the air bag light on????

If the clip breaking sound you heard was related, it likely unplugged the driver air bag. Assuming it is completely disconnected, the car would be safe to drive, however would not be able to deploy the drivers air bag in the event of a serious collision, thus increasing your likely hood of injury. The other concern would be if it is for another reason that the light it on. Depending on the issue, there is a possibility of inadvertent deployment, which could cause an accident <both on the road, and in your pants>. The airbag system is not something to be taken lightly. Envision it as explosive charges that can shred a fridge. Biggest concern would be if the wires are damaged, and not disconnected. If something happens that would power the air bag <short, frayed wire, etc>. It will go off, and it will happen in your face, and depending on where your hands are at, it may ruin your day.
