Default Fuel Pressuure Sensor

Well I had some work done recently. SES light came on and it popped the code P0446. After scanning the computer, parts and labor, total damage came out to be $170. Sensor cost $66.45, and labor charge of $68.60 per hour. Approximately 1 hour of labor. No drivability issues, just knowing that the SES light is on.

Also, these codes popped up while scanning:

P0128 Engine coolant temp. below t-stat range. I take this to be that I will need a new t-stat soon.

P0811 - Max adapt and long shift - Trans. Anyone had this on their car?

Any questions? Comments?

Your car doesn't have a fuel pressure sensor. Can you be more specific?

Your thermostat may be stuck open. The long shift may be related due to a cold trans.

Fuel pressure switch? The mechanic wrote both swtich and sensor on here. I have been thinking of changing the t-stat out anyways, and I let my car warm up a little longer now.

Could this be P1811 instead of P0811?

P1811 is indicative of the pressure control solenoid sticking. The symptoms include hard shifting. If so, I solved mine with a $90 Thrasher Shift Kit.

It could be P1811. Sometimes after driving on the interstate and driving through town, when the trans shifts, it jerks, and you can feel a vibration thru the entire car. The trans also has a high pitched whine to it when it starts doing it. Will this lead to transmission damage over time? Should I get it looked at right away?

I also forgot to mention that they did a "complimentary" fluid check and charged me for a quart of 50/50 Dex-Cool Mix. I have been reading about the Dex cool being responsible for eroding gaskets. Is this the same stuff? Should I be worried about this?

The pressure control solenoid gets contaminated with the fine silt from the normal wear of the clutches. When this happens, it can stick and not modulate the shifts correctly. If the shifts are sluggish because of this, the computer will overcompensate and shift hard. If you don't do anything, the sticky solenoid can lead to premature clutch wear and when it shifts hard, I suppose it can stress other parts of the trans.

I would change the oil and filter right away and add a can of Sea Foam Trans Tune. If your problem is mild, this may be all it takes. Otherwise, the dealer will probably recommend a new solenoid ($500 - $700). I installed a $90 shift kit. A shift kit will make it unnecessary for the solenoid to modulate the shift because the accumulators are stiffened up a bit. Thereby relieving the solenoid of this responsibility and bypassing the problem completely.

When I changed the oil and added Trans Tune, the problem went away for only about a month. I did the shift kit last June and nary a hard shift since!

Here'* my post afterward:

Sorry about bringing up an old post, but the SES light came on this morning. Stopped at autozone and the evap code popped again. I got a new cap and had the switch in the tank changed out. What could this be now? Bad gas? Hole in the tank or a line?

This better not be a reoccuring thing.....
