New here so bear with me. Just purch. an 02 ssei w/71k on the clock. My vibration is at idle, and at 35mph and 45mph - after the torque converter locks up. My dealer isolated the trans (torque conv) and even removed the serpentine belt - vibration still there.
There was a lot of movement in the rear motor mount. Is this fluid filled? The rear mount looked almost new. They replaced it, and a front mount, both with aftermarket mounts. The vibe is still there.
They disconnected the dogbone in front, checked and found a frequency vibration of 185. GM says 35-70 is acceptable. They loosened the mount slightly, and it fell to 80, still high. Put it all back together, and it feels slightly better.
QUESTIONS:
Is my prob in the mount or should I look for something else.
If the mount, should I go to factory OEM, or is there a better aftermarket available?

Please describe the vibration. The 35 and 45 can be a number of things, but vibration at idle rules out a lot of the drive train. Is the car shaking? Do you feel it in the brake pedal? Do you feel it in the seat of your pants? Can you hear an unusual noise? Is the vibration audible? Can you walk around the car and determine a general area where the vibration is coming from?

Describe everything that comes to mind.

The vibe seems to be totally chassis - steering whl, seat, gas pedal, floor. No noise. No general area. The mech first thought it to be what he called a chassis ground.., such as vibrating exhaust, brakes lines, etc. Could find nothing.

I would check the isolators on the motor and trans mounts. Can you feel the vibration in your hand if you place it on the engine? Could be a bad harmonic balancer.

Check the chassis to frame mounts and vibration dampeners. You might have a missing or broke bolt, or a dampener torn.

Vibration with hand on engine is minimal - car in neutral.
With in gear, much more noticeable. Remember, it is still there with trans isolated from engine.

Hope I don't sound ignorant, but are you speaking of the sub-frame snubbers? I believe there are 4 of these, and intend to check these tomorrow.

Anywhere the chassis bolted to the frame there is a bolt and a puck like dampener. Not sure if your term and mine are the same, but I think there are more than 4. It'* too damn cold in the garage to go jack the car up and count them. But, when you get under the car, take a trip up each side of the frame rail on a creeper and check them.

The engine frame has isolation and insulators as well. I believe there are 6. They need to be tightened to 141 ft lbs if found loose.

Thanks, will check these tomorrow. The subframe I am speaking of is what I believe is the eng/trans cradle. Apparently, there are more? Regardless, will have the mech look tomorrow. This is a GM dealer (Chevy), where I bought the car, and the vibe is one of the things they agreed to fix. It'* scary, but I have faith in the mechs there, having used them on 2 Chevys for 6 yrs and 225k, miles (and abt $9700).

just to add check the rear tierod-links. Its sounds like the same problem i have. I also have a complete car shake, first thought it was the front end...but its totally the back.
