180* Drilled Thermostat ?
After reading allot of these posts, I've noticed alot of members listing 180* thermostats on their mods list. My questions are : What are the advantages to using this thermostat ? Will the ECM except it ? Will it have any effects on emissions system ? Drilled meaning ? So far I am really enjoying this forum and think you guys are FANTASTIC !

This is the reason why many replace their 195* thermostat with a 180*.

I don't know if your 2000-2005 has a 195* 'stat, so someone else will have to chime in on that.
Others, with highly modified and supercharged engines just want to keep the engine temp down some, as things get pretty hot in there with boost.
Drilling the 'stat allows bypass flow during early stages of the warm up and extra cooling and also helps to keep from trapping air in the system after a coolant change (a common problem with our bonne'*).
Here, read this thread. It has good info, including the T'stat change and drilling info.

I apprieciate the reply [lash] and have read the info you posted. I believe I do have a 195* thermostat. Right now during winter It'* been running at 175* on the freeway. In the dead of summer it will run 180*-185* on the freeway and as high as 195*-215* in traffic before the fans come on.

You should have a 195* stat stock, swapping out to a 180* drilled is a good idea for the summer.
If you get a custom pcm the fans will be set to come on sooner or you can add a zzp 'estat' that will trick the pcm and turn the fans on sooner ( I use this, works great).

you can buy the 180* 'stat at any parts store. Ask for "Stant" brand if they have it. Should be under $10. You do the drilling. See the thread I included in my earlier post for a picture of the drilled stat.
"ZZP" e'stat?
