Tail Lamp Replacement
Kind of a boring topic but how do you replace a little outside rear tail light lamp. When I pulled back the plastic trim and carpet I saw one brake light socket (that looks easy enough) but then the rest of the lamps (a molded rounded steel piece) looks like they can only be accessed by removing a some nuts. I can't remember how many (4?- not important). Problem is those nuts must hold the lamp assembly cover in place but the circumference of the cover is smeared really thick by what looks like factory-applied body sealant. Once I remove the nuts do I have to remove all that dried sealant and then pull the cover off? Looks like the sealant was applied to prevent water leaks. I can't believe I must remove all that orange dried crap just to change a lamp. This looks way too complicated to me for such a simple task. Anyone?

Singscountry just did an extensive write up on it.

Mine didn't have any body sealer on it.

archon,
Thanks for the tip. That'* 2 times in as many weeks. Man you must "live" on this site. We appreciate your expertise and that you are willing to help us out so frequently.
I now see that the tail lamp assembly pushes out to the outside. It is not removed by pushing from the outside in. Now that I think about it that makes perfect sense. The sealant does not have to be touched.

Edit - BTW to answer your question about living here...let'* put it this way. A while back my wife asked "Is that all that you do when you're online? Why don't you go look at some **** or something?"

Sorry, that was too funny not to take off topic!
Archon has helped me more than anyone but him and myself know. Plus he doesn't laugh at my stupid questions. At least he doesn't tell me he does...
