Yesterday I noteiced that my car started to skip (2000 ssei, 42000 miles on it) with a blinking ses light. So this morning I get up and call the dealer, they said they would be able to to get it in. So I go inside and they thake my info as usuall and quote a 2 hour diagnositc fee and a few hours latter I get a call saying I need new plugs and plugwires (code returned 3 cylinders missfiring). I then ask them how much, a total of around 400 bucks with the 140 diag fee, I then tell them I think I can manage to change them myself. So I bring the car home, after getting the stuff I need, and me and my dad change the plugs and wires and imagine what we found, the car has the same exact skipp as it had before. So I guess my question is anyone have any ideas on what would make the car misfire on 3 different cylinders? The funny part is I asked them are you absolutatly sure that changing the plugs and wires will fix the problem; the answer "Yes, Sir". I guess I am going to have to have small conversation with them tomorrow but just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Oh FYI it really skipps when you step on the gass quick, and when driving up hills, but the results can be recreated with the car in the garage in park and just taping on the gas peddle.

Could be the ignition control module or 2 bad coils, rare to loose 2 coils at once so I'd opt for the icm.
Also did you check the plug wires for continuity before installing? Even new plug wires can be dead from the factory?

I had a similar problem with a skip and the SES came on under hard acceleration. $775 later it ran fine with the 6 new fuel injectors.

kcusscam, you're in Maine? We may have a member near you that you can use to swap coils and ICM'* between cars. Takes about 30 minutes.

I agree with checking your new wires first. Should be an even progression of resistance from shortest to longest.

Yes, actually I do live in maine near the bangor area. I will check on the wires first but would be most interested in seeing if I can track down the problem. Do the none ssei use the same icm and coils, and I called for prices and they said the icm requires repogramming. Any thoughts?

Greate news, the service manager called me back today and they are going to take the car back in and redo the diagnostic.

The ingnition control module requires no programming and swapping it out is no different then changing the coils, I think its a 4mm socket to remove the screws on the coils first then a 6mm for the icm.

Good luck with the dealership, hope they help find the real problem.

The have found the problem. It appears that the Pressure Control Solenoid was acting up. Had them replace it and it runs great, no bad injector, coils or icm.

Nope didn't get any money back but they did redo the diagnostic and the real problem was resolved, could have been worse I suppose they could have charged me for another diag like the advisor wanted to.
