Good Morning,

I got home yesterday with my newly purchased 2002 SLE (through the driving
rain) and found my trunk was wet in multiple places. In addition, the rear footwells
and font passenger floor are wet. I have searched this forum and now realize
this to be common. I am assuming I have multiple entry points for the water, and the
interior will come out this week to begin the process of elimination. (Moonroof drains,
then door seals etc). However, while the trunk lid was open water continued to drip off
the corners of the spoilers for several hours after I had dried it. I appeared to be full of
water. In addition, water was under the rear set area by the battery and mold was
starting to grow on the underside of the seat (maybe a rear glass problem). Any hints
on drying/cleaning the carpet and underlay?

Sounds like you got a mess on your hands! I hope you didn't buy this car from a dealer. I'd take it right back if you did. Nobody should have to take apart a brand-new-to-them car right after they buy it.

The best way to dry the carpets? Take them out of the car and put them in the sun or your house. Gives you a good opportunity to give them a superb cleaning.

Thanks for the info. As it turns out the vehicle went back to the dealer. (Which is a Honda store in Quincy, Il. ) They offered me my money back as I was not happy with the vehicle. I believe they were not aware of the problem as the car had never been in their detail shop, it was a fresh local trade (verified one owner bought new at the local Pontiac dealer) which I bought undetailed as part of the deal. Anyway, they also had an 2003 Bonny which had been traded in and we hammered out a deal on it. It'* not my favorite color (white) but it actually rides out better than the 02 and is equally equipped except no moonroof! Believe me, I went through it completely before I signed the paperwork. It is not perfect, but I feel comfortable that I know what it will need. I feel that legally (at least in Illinois) I had little recourse about the first vehicle, so I'll give props to the sales manager Scott Davis for being a stand up guy.
I look forward to piddling with my 03 Bonny and learning from the expertise within this site!
