Default Rebuilt transmission no power

Hello all,
I lost drive and 3rd on my transmission all other gears were working..So i took it to be rebuilt the car takes off strong on the freeway.. but the take off from stand still is weak!..This car prior to the rebuilt would amazingly rip, tires smoking the road on take off..My question here is this normal? or do i have to break in this transmission after a complete overhaul?
Thanks in advance for any info..I want to go back to tranny place with some knowledge.
By the way the car has 135000 miles on it.
Thank again.

I would say they didn't get something right during the rebuild. Clutch pack clearances are critical and if they aren't in spec, you will burn them up fast. Could be an internal fluid leak or they didn't get the torque converter installed correct. It is possible to have a very slight loss of power due to the clearances of the clutch packs but it would be unnoticable to you, I would think only a dyno could prove the loss. Did they replace the torque converter too? Any extra noise? I am no expert on GM transmissions, but I have fixed other types of trannys.

What is the year and make of the car?? Sounds like you are starting off in a higher gear than 1st.

Signature says 2000 SSEi. It could be a shift solenoid. I think that is what you were aiming at...if a shop did the work, it should have a warranty. BTW those can get clogged or they didn't connect the harness.

If he has a 3rd gear start in OD+D and a 2nd gear start in 1+2, I would say that he has no power going to pin E on the trans connector. That could be caused by a blown fuse or a bad ignition switch.

I'd like to hear a more detailed description of what the car actually does, so I can give a better diagnosis.

Hey guys thanks for the responce..The car does make a whining noise on high speed, sounds different from the supercharger,,i am not sure if he change the torque converter ..what he did tell me was he used bigger raybestos clutches, gears since it is a supercharged car.. and in order to give me a year warranty he had to replace everything, don't know if it that should include the torgue converter..when i called him he told me for that type of car i should feel power rite away,,so to drive for a couple of days and if i dont feel a difference he would fix the problem.

I really doubt it will improve, so definitely bring it back if it doesn't. Don't let them charge you for a torque converter if it is the problem and they didn't replace it. If it is the problem they miss-installed it and didn't seat it completely. Just curious if it shifts at all while driving?

Do not keep driving the car if you do not feel that it is working properly!!

Get it right over to the shop and have them road test it with you.

Did the shop that rebuilt the trans do the installation?

Yes they did install it...It looks like they will do rite by me..The owner did not hesitate to say it should have power rite away..he told me to try to punch it hard and see.. since i told him i did not want to push it hard since it has new guts, that i'm wondering if i should break in. I guess i will try to rip it today with out fear and see the responce.
