I've been looking into buying a 2000 Bonneville for myself lately. Just got rid of a Jeep Wrangler so I'm looking forward to something comfortable :P anyway, one thing that was holding me back was that according to the EPA, via www.fueleconomy.com , the 2000 Bonneville gets 27 MPG on the highway, and that makes me hesitate to buy one, because I was really hoping for more. And yet, when I read reviews on the car, I hear claims about how the car gets as high as 34 MPG. So in your guys' experience, what does a (non-supercharged) Bonneville get for mileage?

27 should be easy as long as your evil right foot stays at home. 30, 32, even a bit more is possible with a good tune, plugs, wires, coils, air filter, etc.

depends on your trans too there is different ratios, my father in law has a 3800 se and gets low 30'*. my 3800 sse not supercharged has a lower gear and gets 28-30 hwy.

You'll find the 3800 is reliable and gets great gas mileage at the same time...my supercharged has gotten as good as 33mpg on a long highway cruise when I kept my foot out of it (still getting to know the car at the time)...the worst I have seen with my foot in it is 23-24 and that was because I hadn't switched it back over to premium(only required with supercharged)..Another thing is that if you get the mod bug, they are fairly easy to find aftermarket parts for(engine, Bonny'* themselves are hard, but that'* where these guys use their brains to think of new things for the DIYer)

My 03' SLE says I'm averaging 24.5 with my mix of highway and stop and go traffic in Chicago. I've got a pretty evil right foot as well.

I can actually get better mileage not using the cruise than using it. For my two hour trip from Dixon to Chicago I have averaged 30+ MPG by driving about 70 and not touching my brakes a single time. You have to watch your DIC and find that speed that the car really likes and sit there.

I feel it is also important to mention that I have people all the time tell me how responsive the car is or how powerful it sounds (I think that may be from the vibrations of the solid front motor mount), It doesn't feel like your average 27mpg car of it'* era, it'* got some umph for when you need it.

Really, you get better mileage while not using cruise? That'* bizarre. But yeah, I'm really just concerned about mileage when it comes to really long trips. Sounds pretty good actually. The only other complaint I have is that there'* no manual trans option.

Also, I can't seem to find bonne'* around here for decent prices. Around the detroit area, most of the ones available are either ridiculously overpriced, have mechanical problems, or 200k+ miles. In the chicago area, there'* plenty of 2000 bonnes with 120, 130k miles in great condition for around 3000. What'* up with that?

They sell for what people are willing to pay. It'* a great car, and holds it'* value.

Conceptually, the used car market is dictating some really 'out there' prices atm.

Its not really that Bonnies are in high demand... used cars in general are in high demand. I haven't looked in months, but there was a point where year old or two year old cars were selling for more than new cars.
