Default another rear window regulator goes poof!!! FIXED

I found the write up in tech info on fixing the reg but was currious, what kind of time frame am I looking at? also how tricky is the door panel to get off the door and back on? i fixed the window in my truck and after that it rattled my brains out, I would like to avoid that this time. Oh here is the link to the article in techinfo (wrong link?)
Thanks a bunch.[/b]

Taking the door panel off will take maybe 20 - 30 minutes. It'* held on with clips. Here'* a link to the instructions for that.

The regulator repair took me 40 minutes working at a leisurely pace, and taking pictures. Using reasonable care, you shouldn't have any rattles when you're done.

Edit - Here'* the proper link for the repair.

Awesome, that was quick and MOST helpful.THANKS

Edit: Guess I should be giving a very big thank you. If I had to blow $200 on a regulator I would not be purchasing a new scantool any time soon. The whole point of that is so I can mod, and I'm very sick of waiting to do some decent mods.

We're here to help. Let us know how it goes for you. If it goes well, it may give others confidence to give it a try who may not have otherwise. If you run into problems, or snags, it will prepare them for where to be careful.

It is all done, took me a few days to finish, since my wife is about to give birth to our second son I had to do this between trips to the hospital.

This repair is quite easy, saves you $200 + labor @ $60-$80 an hour.
Here are three things I found troublesome;

1)Be careful when removing the black piece of styrofoam at the bottom corner of the door. If you break it like I did velcro is a Good fix that will allow acces down the road.

2) One of my cables was damaged after the regulator broke by getting tangled around the pulley. Fortunately none of the wires in the cable broke and I was able to repair the cable. I used a pair of pliers to pinch the cable back into shape, use some type of material between the pliers so you dont damage the cable worse, I used a patch of leather from an old pair of gloves.

3) Once you have the metal clip in place, bend the tabs as to pinch the trolley. The first time I did this it felt secure and it functioned fine when I tested it (just plug the regulator into the modulator on the door and you can run it from the drivers seat)so I put the door back together and the clip popped out the next day. I did this twice from start to finish the second time only took me 10min to get it workin again and put back together. I highly recomend this fix it'* simple and it works.

just as a little proof here you go.

Just replaced the 5th window regulator on my 2000 bonne that has 38,000 miles. The first 4 were replaced under warranty. The back two went out during a rain storm, at the same time, the windows just went down on their own. The front two did the same during thunderstorms about a year later at different times, the last time my wife had just gotten me home after I had undergone cervical surgery, 8 screws with a plate.I mention this so you can imagine how frustrated I was while we're trying to raise the windows so the the interior wouldn't get wet, I had a neck brace on and woozy from pain killers .

The left rear just did it again two days ago, this time no rain was involved. I've got a friend with a 2000 ssei, the same thing happened to him. Another friend has a 2000 gran prix, same thing happened to her.

since mine is now out of warranty, i ordered the part and replaced it myself. This forum really helped, thanks guys. The problem with the regulators is stamped on the part "Made in South Korea".

I still like my bonne, especially its sporty look, but i've had so much trouble with it. About six months ago it started making a whinning noise, its continuous. It doesn't matter if the car is stopped, as long as the engine is running I get the whinning sound. Drives me crazy.

First off - welcome to the club. When you can, go to profile at the top of the page and add your year and trim level in your signature.

Yes, the window regulators are a known issue, and there is no indication that the new ones are any better than the old ones, so instead of spending the big buck for replacement, why not repair it yourself as listed in this thread.

As far as your whining problem, you may want to start a new thread for that to get the proper exposure, and hopefully a fix.

yes welcome! I understand your frustration the build quality of this car is poor in some areas that it shouldn't be. But like you said problems aside you like your car,as do I. This club has helped me fix just about evrything that has broke on this car. IMO there is a big bright side about being able to hand someone their a$$ in a big four door sedan. just requires a little trade off.
*update*
Widow reg works great, smoother than the ones I haven't touched.

Default Rear Windows

My rear drivers side window stopped working this weekend. Im looking at the links to repair it.

Where can I get the tool mentioned (J 3877 to remove the door panel. Is there anyone in the Denver area who has done this repair.

Thanks

David
