While repairing my brakes last weekend to took out my mats for cleaning. I noticed the Driver front floorboard carpet wet, and started searching these message boards for an answer. I didn't find one that was specific to the area I'm having trouble. Tonight I lifted as much carpet out as I could without taking too much apart. The sponge rubber backing was soaked so I squeezed and dried it the best I could. Looked for any obvious holes in the floor but didn't see anything. All my door seal rubber is in good shape, no cuts or voids or obviously worn areas. So I have no idea how water has gotten in and when.

Any suggestions what to do next? I'm guessing I'll need to replace the carpet next but don't want to do that until I've eliminated any leaks.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks

typically the seal inside the drivers doors leak. The plastic behind the door panel is put on poorly and most find adding some weatherstrip adhesive will fix this problem.

Thanks for the link. Man you sure did some rippin and tearing for a leak! I haven't had time to do any further troubleshooting. I did manage to lift the carpet up enough to get a towel under the foam pad and squeeze most of the water out. That foam acts like a sponge. Hopefully this weekend I'll have some time to look into it further.

Well here in Florida where we get tons of heavy rain I can't have a car that leaks at all, so I had to be sure I fixed everything and made this car water tight.

As for the carpet foam, you can use a towel to get it dry, but you won't get it dry. It took me 3 days of putting it out in the 75* Sunshine and constant squishing until it was dry. Even when I thought it was dry there was still more in there and I wanted to make sure I got it all out as mold will form and your car will smell bad.

Good luck with your leaks. It wasn't a fun project, and it started as me just lifting the carpet to soak up some water...then escalated into stripping everything in the car. Now that I have done it I look back and am glad I did it all. My car should be better than new now, and it even smells new again. The fact I finally replaced my saggy headliner was a plus as well, as that was the one and only problem with the car and it was bugging me...well besides some scuff marks on my front bumper from hitting a cement wall the other day that I need to take care of now, but that doesn't even make me flinch, being I do paintwork for a living.

If you do end up taking everything out, you could easily do it all in a weekend. I was only able to work on it in my spare time after work during the week, and I had to find my leaks without much guidance as well, now that you know where the leaks in these cars come from you can strip your interior and fix everything and have it put back together in 1-2 morning/afternoons no problem.

The drain hose prob has come disconnected where the hard plastic tubing is connected to a rubber hose. This is located inside of the left kick panel. to access it you will have to remove the parking brake assembly...3 nuts. A plastic panel under the steering column removed also...2 screws. After the parking brake pedel assemble is removed you will see a wire bundle an X cut in the rubber panel. Enlarge the opening with a razor knife and the hose coupling will be exposed behind the panel. Reattach the rubber hose and secure with a tiewrap or clamp.
