Benefits of gutting airbox?
Hello,
For us series 2, 2K+ ssei owners what benefit, if any, is there to gutting the airbox? What kind of performance gains will I get?
Also, does anyone recall the particular thread(*) where there was pictures taken on what exactly I need to do? I did a search, but in the limited time I had to search I didn't find the pics.
Will gutting the airbox cause more dirt and moisture to get into my engine?

Gutting Airbox
More dirt and moisture may reach your filter, but that should stop it before the engine, eh? Mostly, the moisture issue, as the airbox is set up with a type of condensation chamber to prevent direct inflow of water to the filter. Chrysler had this all screwed up on the early x-type trucks, actually AMC. There was just the heat valve for the EGR, and straight into the airbox and filter. Also, the box is designed to straighten the air, so some turbulence can be expected after gutting. Better to get some type of CAI, or design a new box yourself. Experimentation is what it is all about. Think about the best way for cool air to make it into your intake, then route it straight as possible from there. I have been trying to nail down a ram air for my Bonnie for a while, but not quite there, yet.
