Default POS Bras

update:
my hood was severely damaged due to the nose bra and can only be repaired by repainting. The sad part is that I have never seen or heard of this kind of damage that water can get beneth the clear coat due to moisture retained by a bra. I have therefor reason to believe that Pontiac might have a not so hot painting process. I contacted the owners assistance site but as you can imagine they are worthless and do anything but help. Why are they around? well I have not heard that they have actually addressed a customers problem in a professional way and helped, so I don't know.
So, ....don't by a fricken bra and don't put too much faith in the paint durability. Too bad I've been a Pontiac fan for over 20 years but unfortunatley that means nothing when you acctually need some help.

I don't think you're gonna get much help from pontiac. It wasn't their bra, and it paint problems are always hard with companies.

looks that way. They are useless. The thing I found out though is that the hood on my car was re-clearcoated when the car was 3 months old back in 2000 - under warranty!!. Don't know why-bought it used, but that tells me it came from the factory with a problem! Now can this clearcoat issue at the Pontiac factory have anything to do with Bonnevilles being extremlely sensetive to nose bras and causing clearcoat fading, fogging, disscoloratios due to moisture getting below the clearcoat?? makes you think doesn't it. The part that makes the owners assistance line rediculous is - the only excuse they come up with to avoid spending $200 for a hood re-paint was ,- well sir you bought the car used. I tought the waranty goes with the car and not change when it changes owners. Like I said,-worthless, useless, programmed!, not worth my time. I just like Pontiacs but you'd think with a great company would come great customer support.- not so!

Default Paint

Well, got my ugly spot fixed. Found out that it most likely had only little if any to do with the bra. Apparently some Bonnie models had a minor problem with hood paint especially green, black and blue models but not all of them (this is rumors not confirmed).

The bra may have accellerated whatever was going on under there. :?:

I've been following these posts about bras on 2000+ Bonnies. Must be poor quality clearcoating compared to earlier Bonnies. I had a mini hood bra on my '92 since new. Never took it off. Wore it like a wedding ring! Just got rid of bra at 200,000 miles cause the straps that lock the bra on under the hood just rotted. The exterior vinyl look like new however. My daughter has a black 1999 Grand Am GT and her paint is hold up amazingly well too.

I washed an waxed under the bra with McGuire'* Quick Wax about once per month. That'* all I ever did. The front of the hood looks as good as new and unbelievably there is no discoloration whatsoever. You can not tell where the bra line was! The only thing I never did (per instructions) was to use a vinyl protectant on the exterior surface. Original instructions said that would close up the pores and cause paint problems.

I'm getting ready to spring for a 2002 SLE. You can bet that this one will not get a bra! But, it DOES kind of make me wonder what kind of paint and clearcoat problems I will have. Sure hope it holds up as well as the '92, but I'm doubting it right now.

Don't have a digital camera or I would show you picture. You probably still would not believe your eyes.
