Wheel Lug Nuts
I have a 2000 SE. The stock aluminum wheels come with a black plastic cap that screws on over the lug nuts. After a tire rotation, etc., at least one or two seem to fall off, and a few more get stripped. I'm sure some of it is the air gun, but sometimes I found one or two missing after a long trip. I am getting charged anywhere from $3-5 a piece for these.
Does anyone know of a lug nut that would also serve as a cover, i.e. closed end. I see these on a lot of foreign cars.
Thanks.

There are various aftermarket lug nuts that would serve your purpose but would not be an inexpensive fix. Someone who ha purchased some and like them may chime in here, or you could do a Google search. You could also try something like this instead.

If you are using an airgun to install those covers, that is your problem. They aren't strong enough to withstand that type of installation.
Another option is to follow the instructions in this TSB.

A note...If you ever take your tires off yourself for working on the car or rotating them.
I always felt like I was taking off 40 lug nuts because of the caps. Now...I only take off 20. Really speeds up the process.

Thanks for the replies
I am lookikng into buying the Mcgard nuts. I see that they have a black set, I guess similar to what is on there with a locking nut as part of the set. It'* tough to pay around $100 and buy things without seeing them.
I happened to be looking for wheel nuts and came across this site, link attached. I'm a little concerned because they indicate that the length of the lug nuts vary from front to back. If true, I never knew that. I've seen the tire places I go to just throw them all in a pile and then zip them back on. I've had a vibration for a few years since a tire rotation.
Now I'm wondering if they mixed the lug nuts and I have some 19mm on the wheel with some 23mm.
This seems to be more complicated than need be.
Thanks.

Bump
Just would like to know if the info on the link re: different length lug screws is correct, and if buying McGard or other aftermarket lug screws would effect anything.
Thanks.
Thanks.
