Default Oil Pressure Gauge Strobes...??

My oil pressure gauge went on the fritz a month ago, going from normal, to pegged on the MAX. I had been told it was a sensor issue, so I swapped the sensor with one from a wrecker. No change.

Then all of a sudden yesterday, it began to strobe like a tach. Almost acting like a loose connection. Wires all seem intact. The only thing I noticed was that it had a bad seal, and some oil in the plug. I cleaned that up, but it still strobes. Every time it strobes to zero, it puts off that beep beep beep. It is driving me nuts. Any thoughts of the issue? Here is a vid link.

I would put a new oil pressure sensor in. You have no idea of the history of the JY one you have in there now.

Splurged the $66 for nothing. Same issue.

I need to convert this thing to my Autometer pillar gauge. Can anyone provide data on how they have bypassed this sensor using a resistor to go with an aftermarket OP gauge? Disconnected, it now reads zero, and thus the DIC does nothing but tell me I have to check my oil pressure.

Appreciate any help you can give.

did you check the connector for loose pins, wires, crud, oil?

You might be able to borrow a mechanical pressure tester from autozone. Install it, check the oil pressure. If its steady, then I'm suspecting a bad cluster maybe. Aren't the 2000+ clusters typical of gauge failure?

I have had the same problem, ended up being a second bad sensor. I would put in a additional AC/DELCO sensor and do a visual inspection including cleaning of the connector. I think a bad snsor, then a wire issue near the sensor is where I would focus my energies.

Hooked up my autometer lite gauge, and the pressure is perfectly stable and accurate. This is somewhere in the circuitry, either from sensor to the PCM, or in the cluster. I am now leaning towards the cluster, since with it disconnected from the sensor, it still creeps off the zero occasionally by a couple millimeters, then back down throwing the beep beep beep again. My god. All my years, never had something so simple want to make me smash my loving car into a post.

Does anyone have the pinout of the PCM on this car, so I can put in resistors and eliminate this POS problem?
