Same issues
OP, I have the same issues - oil consumption and a slight hesitation/shutter at idle that happens every now and then.
Low Oil Light came on today. After 4000+ miles on Mobil1 5w30, over a quart of oil is gone. No signs of leaks, no signs of oil blow by and coolant looks normal.
Do 3800'* burn oil under normal conditions? If so, how much is considered normal?
BTW, I have an 03 SLE with 53,000 miles on it.

The only issue I still have is the oil consumption. As you, no blow by, no leaks, etc.. I use about 1/2 quart each oil change.. 3K miles.. I use 5W/30 Castrol Syntec.. It'* not the full synthetic, is the mix blend oil. I have never been able to figure out where it goes, so I just have not worried about it. I don't have any issue with gas mileage.. Just went out east and got an average 30 MPG.
